at the moment right now LTR all the way its wide and fast straight up when KTM sx comes out maybe that but not for $19000 like some are saying as could get most others pinging off the track with parts and bike valued up to $19000

best value for money if you want to ride MX with out mods is still the Suzuki however the KTM is good value considering the quality of the gear that come on it. as far as reliability goes, pretty much most of the current crop are reliable for an average rider,

If we pay that we are being ripped of cause 1 us dollar buys .6458 euros and 1 aus dollar buys .6116 euros. They are around $12000 us dollars so you would think $15000 at most, but then again the xc is around $8000- $10000 depending on which state in usa you buy and $14000 to $15000 here. So $19000 is likely still think we are being taken for a ride.

depends what you want to do with it?
I think right now
moto x = polaris outlaw 450 SA - has KTM engine and good stock shocks
endro = Polaris Outlaw 525 IRS - nice smooth ride with the IRS and plenty of power with the 525 KTM engine ( I completed finke within the time limits on one of these with an already fractured vertebrae and it really looked after my back)
mud - 4x4 = low cc - Polaris sportsman - reliable - a 500cc won Kamfari 2 year ago
mud - 4x4 = high cc - either a brute force or renegade - however if you go renegade strip it down and strengthen the frame - these light frames tend to bend behind the steering head - we have a steel bench here which we straighten and reinforce renegade frames on... also the shocks need attention as well. This is based on our friends experience over the last 3 yrs of canams Bullet will tell you it's a serious race quad 3/4/5 Yrs ago the brute force smoked Kamfari and last year was waldo on a canam and this year was ros on a 500 canam even though it broke his left thumb

Next year I think the KTM MXer will be up there depending upon final pricing.

Thats my 2 cents worth Razz now don't swear at me - I am a girl and like a comfortable ride.

You're all nuts!!!!!!........how can new models and some of the most expensive quads on the market be the most reliable and best value for money?.......you've lost your mind.

The most reliable and best value for money right now woud have to be the Z400 or 400EX......

I don't know why Linc put two other bikes infront of an 50 TRX450R (which he owns).
I've raced an 04 for years perfectly trouble free.

Having said that race any of the 450's close to stock around clubman level and they're all good.
After that it comes down to the rider and his wallet.
The bike has very little to do with it.

The Can-Am DS450X does have a few points which it excells in.
Light weight and most centralised mass, and,
Superior steering geometry that delivers less than half the steering kick back of other bikes.
Put those two points together and it is an easier and more comfortable quad to race / ride.

I tried not to be biased there... but you'll have to ride one if you don't believe me, you will notice those advantages.

I can't wait until the 2009 Can-Am 450 comes out.
It's rumoured they will have a state of the art MX race ready quad.

If you want an MX winner... I'd wait to see what KTM and Can-Am come up with.

Just have good look around, decide on a colour and look at the bike as what it can and can't provide and what you want, want reverse want height, want different style, they are much of a personal want more than anything....
And power to add... laughing laughing laughing

could be worse I suppose, Yogie could have quoted me........

Linc makes a good point, all the lower performance machines seem to have been missed from the equation here. But that also raises another question as to what purpose you want your value for money for?

If your an average skill level rider who only rides socially once a month then you will get better value for money out of a 400EX than a YFZ450 however for a clubman racer who like to compete regularly then of course an LTR is going to be better value for them.

PostPosted: Sat Jun 21, 2008 9:03 am Post subject: Another vote for Suzuki LTR Reply with quote Back to top

If you are looking for a race bike on a tight budget then I don't think you can go past the LTR. I have an 06 which has only had regular services and no mechanical issues whatsoever. From stock I've only added nerf bars, air filter, precision dampener and bought a set of enduro wheels. I find its a good comfortable ride and competitive on the race track.

No need for a-arms, axle or shocks to race like you will find for all the other jap quads as other stock width quads just don't handle that well.

But your other option is to pick up a good second hand quad from any manufacturer with all the aftermarket bolt-ons. Unfortunately (for the seller) aftermarket bits don't seem to add much value in the second hand market
