can someone tell me what torque the headbolts on a yfz450 have to be (the long bolts) and the sequence in what you tighten them up at, im guessing it is just a criss cross pattern.

and the torque on the cam covers (the cap/cover thing that holds the cams down) and sequences to tighten those up too.

oh and how do i know how tight to get the timing chain?

any help is appreciated
james

Mate, it's difficult to explain. Best thing to do is get a copy of the service manual.

If you've got a fax I'll send the pages you need.

For the head...

grease the bolt heads and washers
tighten to 22 ft/lb
remove and regrease
tighten to 14 ft/lb
tighten a further 180 degrees over 2 stages ( 90 degrees at a time)

all in a criss cross pattern

cam caps are done to 7.2ft/lb in a criss cross pattern, work from inside out on the inlet side because of the 6 bolts.

IMPORTANT: make sure that the cams spin freely once torqued.

the cam chain tensioner is self adjusting, just let the tensioner relax itself.
