Have read some posts on here regarding importing parts from U.S.that said you need to keep value under $1000 to avoid gst & duties etc.
Just wondering how customs determine the value involved, do they inspect the invoice with the goods? If so, maybe having the invoice sent separately via mail would avoid this.
Any thoughts? _________________ The term "Foolproof" seriously underestimates the ingenuity of Fools.

Dont worry about it, I've bought off dennis kirk, global moto, BTO sports, and all have put it down as a gift, so there's no duty paid. _________________ 2005 KFX700

yeah unless its a gift, the invoice has to be with the package.
but like yogie said, most places will help you trick the authorities! wether it be "gifting" it, or just invoicing you for less when you actually paid more etc...
pretty easy, although im sure one day they'll cotton on to it and change the rules! _________________ 2002 SE Banshee |

The threshold is $1000 AU. If it's a gift your ok. We buy a lot of ebay us - both for bikes/quads and my embroidery sewing machine - yes guys i do do feminine stuff also. They do accept paypal/ebay invoice as proof. I have found in recent times with the increase in usps rates it is cheaper to have several parcels sent than one big one which helps with the customs... I had one guy who was lazy and put a nice round figure of 1000us on it - so got picked up through customs. They accepted the paypal invoice after conversion that it was indeed less than $1000AU. just lots of paper work _________________ Family is most important.... next is our quads |

Marked as a gift means nothing...
Get the wrong person at customs and you will get stung hard...
Make sure it is marked under a 1000 and you will be fine, the invoice however has to be sent, if you can con the person your buying it off to make the invoice for cheaper, that's the key...
However if you loose the goods you will only get back the price marked on the package....
Bit of a catch 22.....
Or send the goods in different parcels at different intervals make sure there u nder the thousand dollar mark though...
I have been caught out and mate did they sting me, also it takes some time to clear customs once they have any doubt at all, they hold it and then want proof of purchases etc....
Good Luck... |

sounds like either the guys that copped it got unlucky or i got lucky.
I just received a shipment from a US supplier for au$1700 for wheels/tyres and other bits and pieces for the ltr and had no problem at all , it arrived in 5 working days with no extra charges or hold ups. _________________ 08 Raptor 250 (missus)

Thanks guys, I think I might play it safe & split into 2 separate shipments,
since it's a-arms & shocks I'm lookin at. I'd prefer to buy local but with the oz $ rate at the moment it's no contest. I'm lookin at K&k atv or Dennis Kirk ATV, any experiences with these guys ?
cheers..... _________________ The term "Foolproof" seriously underestimates the ingenuity of Fools.

Yeah I bought my pipe off them, but took 3 months & a dozen emails to arrive. Maybe I was just unlucky though cos others have said they were fine. Still a little gunshy on going back to them again, although they are cheap. _________________ The term "Foolproof" seriously underestimates the ingenuity of Fools.
