Has anyone done their swingarm themselves before?
I have noticed that there is a very small amount of movement in the swingarm on the raptor when i rock the thing from side to side.
Asked yamaha and they said that there should not be any movement and it is best to do this before it slogs the bolt out as well.
Have looked on my service cd and it looks straight forward enough.
Am I better to take it to the dealer or have a go at it myself, was wondering if they are pressed in or not, I have access to machinery so that isn't a problem..
Any sugestions would be good.

When we did the banshee swingarm we bushed it with brass & put a grease nipple in it. A few of the 2 wheeler MXers are finding the needle rollers in the swingarm aren't lasting long enough in the conditions up here in Cairns. They are changing bearings every season. When they put a bush in it is a one off event.
It cost no more to get done at a workshop than it was to buy a replacement bearing from Yamaha. We just have to make sure we keep the grease up to it now.
These blokes might be wrong though.
Has anyone else replaced the needle roller with a brass bush & grease nipple & if so how has it gone?
We haven't given it the test of time.
I also think a grease nipple wouldn't go astray with the needle roller. _________________ 06 LTZ400

Another little hint.
If you can't get the bearings out. Try welding a washer inside them, obviously one at a time. That's asuming your swingarm has a seperate bearing on each side of course. Be careful not to burn through though. This heat shrinks the bearing & gives you a place to put your drift on to to punch it out. There isn't much of a lip in there to drive on. _________________ 06 LTZ400

Looks like I may be doing it myself, with a cost of over $400 to get the shop to do it, AllBalls sell an upgraded kit and I have access to a press so I will be doing it myself..
Thanks for the hints and I will let you know how I go.... _________________ Andrew |
