What is the way to go for e recreational rider doing a rebuild on a Banshee, Wiseco or pro-x pistons?
Prices I have got so far put the Wiseco ahead on price. Do you guys think it is worth the extra money to go to Pro-x?
Also what else is there around? _________________ 06 LTZ400

If you start your quad and ride prox pistons
if you look after your motor wisco ,by warm up first .
I think prox piston are cast alloy. with tapered rings
wisco is forged pistons with parallel piston rings my choice |

just thought id add this for those who might not know..
OEM pistons and Pro-x pistons are cast, compared to the wisecos which are forged. Forged are stronger however due to the nature of the forging process, the pistons tend to expand more than cast ones with heat.
therefore motors with forged pistons need to have more bore clearance than cast ones to allow for this. this tends to make the motors a little noisy when cold due to the extra bore clearance, and is one of the reasons why you should always warm up your engine and bring it up to operating temperature before riding.
if you dont warm the engine properly and cane it straight away, the pistons will expand quicker than the iron sleeve, and you will nip it up.
so it comes down to this:
1. wisecos are stronger, lighter and cheaper, but you have to spend 5/10 minutes warming the engine properly (which you should do anyway!)
1 other thing is serco's only stock 64mm, 64.5, 65, 65.5, 66 and 66.5mm oversizes, but you can actually get :
64.00
64.25
64.50
64.75
65.00
65.25
65.50
66.00
66.25
66.50
have to order the 'special" sizes from america thats all... _________________ 2002 SE Banshee |
