I am interested to hear stories(true ones) of any dealings you have had with NPWS while riding, either legally or otherwise.

this information will be used in a submission to the NPWS on behalf of Off Road Riders.
this submission will be in part to access the validity of any claims by NPWS and the Greens on the subject of stockton beach RVA being closed to vehicles on UVP's. ie ATV's and dune buggies etc.

The campaign has only just begun so i expect there will be an uphill battle from here, just finding someone to speak with in the NPWS has been in its self a 2 day event, still with no joy at this time.

thanks
Matt

Hello Mat,
Bazz (Editor @ Australian ATV Action Magazine) ,Paul Nixon (Duner at stoko for over 20 years) and myself (NSW Quad delegate for the national quad advisory commission ) have organized a meeting with NPWS tommorrow Morning to find out more about Stockton and ATV's,will let the forum members know how it goes ,its only a low key event to see what can be done for them and us .We will then need to form or join a club so everyone can have a voice on this ,then we can put a diplomatic propsal together as with any lobbying or requests to Government Authorities. As individuals we stand little chance of being heard as a body we have a much better chance . I have spoken briefly to them at the clean up day and it sounds positive ,certainly no promises ,however they really seem keen to Accomodate the ATV and 4x4 fraternity .Keep u posted

At least it's not all doom and gloom. Maybe a good outcome to this in the end.

Best of British to you guy's , I,ve never been to Stockton but it is high on the list Very Happy and being the hottest topic on this forum, deserves the attention Neutral .

I was priveliged to hear an Aboriginal elder speak at the Carnarvon Gorge , his sacred ground, and he told us

" Before settlement his people didn't own the land , nobody owns it "
he said " WE were custodians for the land then , now we all on this land , and WE can all share custody "

I'd never heard it put this way but it makes sense to me!

From what I see 99% of ATV'rs fit into that cattegory but unfortunatly nobody can control the other 1%, unless???

hello fellow quadstoneions.
being only new to this forum and really new to quadding i thought that some information on the quality of stockton dunes would be of value to this forum.
i have been a constant user of this beach since i was only ten or even younger but as a fisherman. i can remember as a youngster walking across the sandhills with my dad from boycey,s which is another track on to the beach about ten kilometers up from lavis lane.
thats right, you heard right , walked across the dunes . just to go fishig , and the worst part was that if you caught anything then ya would have to carry them back . this track is accessed from nelson,s bay rd not far along from the marsh,s rd intersection . now day,s the track is pretty well run down and over grown with vegetation .
at the sweat tender age of sixteen i had my first introduction to dune buggies , my dad and i built our first buggy from a cut down vw . it had a flat 1600 vw engine and it use to absurlutly fly across thoses dunes . not long after that my dad let me venture out fishing in the buggy all by myself (bad move ) i dont even remember taking the rods off , i do remember chasing a fox across the dunes one night ( now that was fun ).
as years went by my thirst for fishing grew stronger but so did my need to play on the dunes . after a trip to the dump one day i came across a discarded old trike . now dont get me wrong it found its way into the trailer before i even started to unload . this trike was a ( bi-lo ) trike , meaning the enginge was the only thing that was original being a royal endfield (english juke ) the frame was totally home made and it had holden wheels mate it was big and heavy .
fishing was put on the back-burner for awhile we played with this trike . tyding things up pumping wheels up , making sure everything vwas working properly. the first time we trird to fire it up was a laugh and a half as it through my dad clean over the handle bars . as luck may have it , we had a speed way ride named mel guy who use to live next door, we ask him if he had any experience with this sort of bike , he laughed and said , not this centery,
anyways , after some time playing and asking around we finaly got it to start , mate , what a noise , we loaded it on to the box trailer and away we went , the thing fired every second telegraph pole or so it felt there was no de-compression lever you just had to make sure that it was on the firing stroke at the top befor you attempted to kick it over.
three gears was all it had , but in top gear you never never give it a fist full cause if you did it was straight up onto the back wheels and if you had someone on the back laughing and they were,nt hanging on laughing it,d be all over bar the shouting. them were the days (1970 something).
the trike might of long gone and the dune buggies too but the smell of fishing still remains in the blood.
todays vehicles that we play with also have changed . those trikes still have the same shape but dont look as lethal as they did 40 years ago the quads that we ride now days were,nt even on the drawing board then and 4x4 have got more complicated and plentiful.
but guess what ??? those sand dunes are still there and if you look at the statistics , its the 4x4ers and bikes riders who are killing them selves off and guess who is taking the blunt of being to dangerous.
my love of stockton beach is part of my life as it allows me to induldge in two of my most favourite hobbies , i cant tell you which i preferr the most but i can tell you , that i never paid for a licence then and i,m darn sure i refuse to pay for one now.
i read that someone said that if you cant afford to pay for your licence then you better find another hobby . you my friend forget on thing , and that is that this country is supose to be a democratic country and that i,m intitalled to have my say . this government has and will continue to take whatever they see fit to take from us , the people , why should stockton be any different.
this is not a complaint and its not a bitching sesssion , its just something that , me as , a forum member , has been through from a young age , and seen it all,

Well said Rick. Sounds like you have had some great experiences at Stockton. I hope you guys have a win in keeping the area open for quad use or memories may be all you are left with. Even though I live in W.A, you can count on my support if you are ever looking for numbers.
