Hey guys i am new here and new to atvs, please forgive me if this question has been asked a thousand times but i did a search and couldnt find the answer i want,
I got a new atv today and have been out riding for about 4 hours now and loved it, the question i have is..
what is the best thing to do with the suspension? i live in outback WA so the terrain i am riding is very rocky, so should i adjust the suspension so the nuts add more or less tension. i found driving along the rocky terrain the steering jumped around alot, currently the nuts on the adjustable suspension are at the factory settings (about 20mm of thread out the top of the nuts)
the bike handled very well on a dirt track so maybe i need to find a happy medium...
thank you |

Which quad? How heavy are you?
Im 70-75kg & dont jump much so usually back EVERTHING right off & take the rebound back up to about 1/4 of the range.Up the compression if you bottom out a lot. _________________ Cheers-Redted. 04 Raptor |

Comp right off,if youre NOT bottoming out on landing after jumps or when you hit a bank or ramp.
WHAT QUAD DO YOU HAVE? Does it have comp or rebound adjusters? _________________ Cheers-Redted. 04 Raptor |

its an atomik, just a cheapy something to muck around with.
it has shocks with coils over them and the shock body is threaded with an adjusting nut that tightens on the spring, i cant see any other ajustment that u have mentioned, i have now wound the nuts right back and ill see how that goes, thatnks very much |

That would be 'preload' only, that you have. This doesnt give you much option.Try it like that(minimum preload)-but it will probably be too low & not have enough ground clearance for big rocks & humps. Lower tyre presure may help.= 4-5 psi.Any lower & you risk damaged side walls or bent rims. _________________ Cheers-Redted. 04 Raptor |
