Ok, as I've said before I tend to get out there riding by myself in the ACT, so this time I am putting my plans up here on the forum to get the word out. If anyone wants to join me then feel free to do so.
I will be starting from the Urriara State Forrest Saturday morning. The best way I can describe the location is from Google Earth co-ordinates so I hope some of you guys have Google Earth and know what this means.
Start:
35°18'42.99"S
148°52'19.23"E
From there I am making my way about 10km due North to try and join up with saome powerlines running in a NE-SW direction. I figure the power lines would be fun to follow as the forrest trails can get a little touring like.
Power Lines:
35°15'31.38"S
148°52'25.33"E
By the time I have gotten to the power lines there seems to be about a trillion acres of forest to the West. Should be able to find somewhere to go and amuse myself.
Anyway, that's the plan, will take some happy snaps and let everyone know how it goes...

OK, another ride bites the dust. Ended up going both Sat and Sun morning just because I can. I must say Sunday morning was cold, wet and miserable....
I ended up takinmg a different route to the one described above, but it ended up at the same place, the powerlines.
Image 1: Couple of km into the ride, looking back down the moutain as I made my way up.
Image 2: Looing up the mountain from the same spot. The trail starts narrowing out around the next corner.
Image 3: Made it to the power lines. Track is much more random here and actually couldn't get through some parts of the track because it was too steep and too rutted from two wheelers. Got too busy to take photo's, sorry.
Image 4: My vantage point for the last photo, right under the lines.
Image 5: Closer view of the track under the lines as it starts it's climb up the hill.
Image 6: Some of the track as I start the 15km ride back to the car. You've realy got to be smart blasting along these tracks for the first time, nearly blew off the side of this corner as I was going way too fast for the corner.
Image 7: Now this was an absolutley ripping corner to hang it all out, heading up the hill was pretty safe becasue if you over cooked it you had some runoff area, heading down the hill was a bit iffy as overshooting would cost you a 20m dropoff down the side. The corner actually turns back on itself, probably about 200 dgrees and a little off camber at the bottom.
Image 8: Some nice erosion mounds towards the bottom of the moutain, nice going up, dangerous when going down at speed due to the possibility of landing on the face of the cutout on the other side of the mound.
Image 9: A picture of nothing realy.....
Anyways, that is it, great fun but a little cold this weekend... |
