Our 04 YFZ's swingarm got a crack that we welded up. So far it's done about 15 hours hard trail & motorcross riding & hasn't reapeared yet.
It was a bit of a problem with the 04's I heard.
No other problems with ours except rims though.
Good luck

If youre going to ride them hard, the older ones???(pre 05???) needed a 'oil squirter' mod to the crank case to squirt extra oil up under the piston. I dont know much about this, anyone else??? _________________ Cheers-Redted. 04 Raptor |

a few have done the oil mod but to do it properly is a big deal not just a 2hr thing in the shed. something to look out for on 04 YFZ's is the plug in the front right side of the head where the manual decomp lever was on the 02 YZ head. the plug yamaha put in was made of rubber and can pop out under normal oil pressure, there are replacement plugs available that lock in with the bolt on the side of the head. who's 04 are you looking at Pete? you know mine is for sale???? _________________

The decomp plug is an easy fix, about $20 for a alloy one from the States (if PeteW doesn't sell them). A must do on any '04!
Also, some '04 models had a battery discharge issue. The battery would go flat if you didn't have your lights on. Some people fixed it with a resistor kit from Yamaha or replaced their stator and rectifier with a kit from TrailTech for example.
Me, I store my bike plugged into a Optimate III battery charger/maintainer. '04 a still the original battery. _________________ Don't close your eyes during the crash, you'll miss the best part |

funnily enough I do have stock of the de-comp plugs, you know being an 04 owner and all, only one of the 4 04's we've had has had battery problems, mine is still on the original battery and starts easily, only ever had the lights on occasionally for late in the day enduros. rest of the time they are in the box in the shed.
Cowchasers mrs is selling her 05 LE pretty cheap too Pete _________________
