i realise putting any spacers on the back is going to stress the axel but what is a recommended width for rear wheel spacers on a yfz450 before you start to really put stress on the axel, i do a lot of track riding if that helps. had a quick look through the technical subjects but couldnt find anything on spacers for the yfz

cheers,
james

my son raced with rear spacers before going to longer axle, 3" [ from memory ] Dura blue Plastic type with long stud extenders, no problems with breakages or staying tight, maybe some issues with front though as it has a more drastic effect, bump steer, excessive caster when turning etc.

i want to try and steer clear of stud extensions, being a fitter & turner i was planning on making up some aluminium spacers that bolt onto the hubs and have separate bolts to bold the wheel on, unless someone convinces otherwise, at the moment im planning on 1 1/2 inch possibly 2inch width for the spacers (rear only).

stud extensions in my opinion arnt the best option, although they are light, they put a lot of stress on the original studs, they seem (to me) that they will bend the original studs when under extreme pressure, where as the spacers that i intend to make will have a greater surface area to distribute the load.

thats what i think anyway

A wide axle is the best but more expensive option. I use the durablue stud extensions WITH the hard plastic SPACERS (2.5" each side) with no probs, but i don't do huge jumps. A bolt on alum spacer is prob better but that will create the same 'streching' stress on the bolts as mine. I WOULDNOT use the individual screw on stud extensions(as a lot of blokes do) as there seems to be little 'side ways support' which i think would tend to stretch & BEND the studs. Confused Confused Neutral --When i need to replace my orig axle(which might be soon Hrm the way ive been going lately Hrm ), Il get a wide one with spacers that go inside the hubs for adjustment for when Im too wide for bush bashing.

Nothing at all wrong with the stud extention spacers. I have sold well over 1200 spacers with zero failures and these are used by madder riders than the knockers. Take for example Tasmanian Enduro racers on 700 Kawasakis and even wonderful Paul Worth. He uses them on Motard and nothing puts more sideways stress on things like tar racing.

I agree with Green Human , I have run both types , the durablue and the screw on types for the past 10 yrs + and have never had a failure or bend yet. Im 130kg with gear, so anything i ride is always under stress. I have never heard or seen anyone who has bent an axle using spacers, and I figure the Yanks are very careful about the chances of being sued so would not have a product on the market if it was dangerous.

Just my two pennys worth .
