i'm pondering the idea of getting +2 a-arms for my yfz450 and i dont want to spend the big dollars on new shocks yet, so the questions are:

1. are there upgraded multi-rate spring kits for the front shocks on the yfz?

2. and if so who makes them?

3. and who sells them?

there is a company in the usa that makes upgrade kits for stock shocks . the web site is www.tcsracing.com . i have these springs on my rear shock on my ltr450 and it was a great improvement on braking stutters and zero pre load comfort.

i got them direct. i gave them my weight and the type of riding i do and they sent me the springs and the correct valve. i then got my local bike shop to install the valves and new oil. it cost about 300 all up.

sounds good, i suppose i could order the parts off them (for the front) and then i could get a bike shop to fit the parts, pretty much what you did. how long did it take to get the parts over here? and did you have to talk to tcs over the phone?

P.S. im a bit sceptical about buying parts from america

i did it all over e mail. took about two weeks to get here after ordering.. they will ask you if you want zero preload spring and i would recomend it as it will take that low speed knock out of the front end yfz.

Why don't you talk to Adam at the Quadsquad as I know he's doing these mods to LTR's with great results. I haven't heard if he's doing it for YFZ's but if he is it would be far better than sending your business to the US.

I know he can do TRX450 shocks as well, but being a Yamy rider himself I know he'll have other recommendations for you.
Give Adam a buzz he knows those shocks inside out and is really good with advise.

thanks Darryl and Darrell laughing

Gammie, we have had great results with the shocks on the LTR's, TRX's and the YFZ rears but not so much on the front of the YFZ's.

The trouble with the YFZ front shocks is that they arent an ideal platform to work from. They could do with more stroke, up and down. By the time we put the Dual rate spring on and the bike settles it doesnt leave enough travel for it to properly do its job.

Another problem is that the compression adjustment makes no noticable difference on the YFZ shocks.

So, having said all that, its a better investment to get some entry level aftermarket shocks that have better materials, more travel, better tunability and longer service life all for around the price of setting up the stockers. Not too mention that the entry level shocks can be upgraded to a higher spec with adjustment and external reservoirs at any service interval.

Feel free to give me a call if you want to talk some more or send me an email if you wish.

thanks
Adam
