Just bought a kwaka brute force 650, mainly for farm use and bush riding, 1 week's use so far and goes great, nice burble at the exhaust.
At about 20-28 kph lots of belt/gearbox noise, grinding sound. Dealer says this is normal, ignore it!. Any comments??

I have a 04 KFX700 and that has a gearbox whine due to the straight cut gears in the gearbox. The pitch of the noise increases with the speed I am doing. That is normal a "grinding" is not. Do you have anyone local that has the same bike so you can compare? If you are still concerned try http://www.kawieriders.com it is a US site there is a lot of BF riders and they may be able to help.

I don't know about that, Woody and myself had to pick Bumble Bee and a couple of others up with a 4x4 last ride.
And before you comment Bumble Bee, I know you stayed with the others for moral support. Nice of you to offer to teach Yogie how to ride better as payment for fixing his quad for him.
I'll take Scotch Yogie |

A grinding noise is never good bloke, I'd have it looked at by somebody else.
I've heard a bit of whining coming form kwakas before so I think that's normal (could have been the rider though) |

I think it is just the nature (!) of the gearbox, CVT. It is only tween 20-28 kph over that it disappears. Trouble is 20-30 is ideal speed for my farm.
At that speed one can handle the occassional termite mound and it gives the large black snakes, sunning themselves on the track, a chance to get off.....don't know who gets the bigger fright, me or them. |
