g'day, I want to buy an ATV or side-by-side which will work well climbing/descending long steep tracks in dry weather: think firetrails common in SE Australia: quite steep, loose surface with small rocks branches and leaf matter, mild to moderate erosion.
Going up, I'd like for it not to lose traction. (The traction control on 2 wheel bikes like the KTM 790 Adv works pretty well!). When its wet, I simply won't go up the hill, so you can assume its not muddy. I will still use it about the place in winter when it is a bit wet, but I'll avoid big hills.
Going down, same thing. It needs to be able to go slow without relying on brakes.
4 wheel drive with diff locks would make sense. Manual or auto? Dunno.
All other things being equal, I guess longer wheel base is better, bigger tyre contact patch is better, lighter machine is better.
Forgetting about ability to carry stuff on the back, or carrying a second person, is there any general advantage/disadvantage to a side-by-side over your classic ATV?
I weigh 90kg, and wouldn't carry much extra weight up the hill. Say 10 or 20kg max, which could go on the front on some ATVs.
What should I buy? thanks... |
