G'day I'm new to the quad scene and living in Perth WA. Bro inlaw and I have bought a YFZ450 SE 2008 and named it Carnage. We've explored a fair amount of perth and hoping to do more.

I'm on the hunt for a set of Paddle tyres and spare rims but the PErth prices are insane and paddle tyres a scarce as.

So what I'm asking is could anyone recommend a store online on otherwise throughout OZ that does good deals?

Cheers all

AUSTRACO http://austraco.com.au/

Consider the 22 inch ITP Mudlite rears too.
They do not offer as much drive as a paddle tyre, but they are half way as good and much better for multi-purpose (OK on hardpack)

2 things wrong with those tyres. Heavy and 6 ply. if you are going to go a 6ply on the sand you want the tread to be spaced out quite a bit but light aswell

dunlop should bring back the kt335!!! Sad

They make the ITP Mudlite 22's in an 8 inch rim, 9 inch and 10.
I chose the 8 inch rim version because they were the lightest spec of the 3 sizes.
They are not 'really' heavy, but you are right that they are not 'really' light either.
A bit heavy maybe, but everything else about them is a good match for dunes.
Being 6 ply (but lightish for a 6 ply) they still have a stronger sidewall, so Lisa runs 2.5psi and if I use them I run 3.0psi (with an outside beadlock).

AUSTRACO also has a few different types and brands of paddle tyres too.

Thanks Fellaz, I'll email these guys and see what I come up with.

I have continued to find that most US dealers either don't ship tyres to OZ at all or are charging $65 for postage but I'm not sure whether once they land here in freo ports whether I'm going to get a notice asking for more money due to customs inspection like they did on my 4x4 tyres

Cheers

I'm aware of that but there are other shipping fees attached. I had a set of tires sent from the US for the 4x4 and the port/ handling fees came to $500.

They said it would have been more if the customs agent decided to look at the package. Apparently looking for mosquito larvae.

Of all the places, I would have thought perth should be a good place to get paddles?

Regarding paddles them selves, I've never seen the attraction. I've ridden quad and trikes with both paddles and knobblies and always felt I've had a better time in the dunes without paddles. I'm not sure if that's just me?

Paddles can sap a bit of power, not all of them transition into a slide that well, they have the tendency to dig in and not float on the sand at times, and many OEM tyres perform extremely well in the sand.

But it's horses for courses I suppose. I'm guessing I wouldn't turn up to sand drags without paddles, and clearly they do offer better traction.
