I always take a tyre plug kit.

Like the above post, + a low pressure tyre gauge + a really good compressor.
I like to use my eyes a lot but, go figure, the worst tyre damage I ever had was on one of the best tracks I've ever been on.

I used to run skid steers doing demo work, and tried a lot of different things on those. The military type goo is very expensive when used in the right quantities, but certainly effective. Two things against that type of stuff though: Changing tyres is real messy and I don't reckon they are much good on anything that travels at speed because it is impossible to balance a tyre /wheel combo for those sorts of moving masses.

Some of the desert racers on here can offer you good advice about "tyre balls".

Travelling not alone is advisable.

If you are planning on doing weekend trips in the future, look at getting yourself a spare wheel and mount it securely on your ride. We always take a spare with us now on overnight rides. It saves destroying a rim if you damage a tyre beyond repair and you have to try to get back to camp on it.

A good set of headlock rims will run on a flat tyre for a very long distance. It will however completely stuff the tyre if you ride far enough on a flat.

Tireballs are a pain in the arse if you don't have someone else to fit them for you.

The goo that you spray inside tyres can sometimes make the tyre unrepairable because repair patches will not stick to the rubber after you have used the goo.

Tyre plugs, a compressor and complete spare rim/tyre are your best bet.
