http://www.bordermail.com.au/story/1193367/quad-bike-deaths/interactive/
That's the accident break up provided by the zealot Tony Lower.
129 deaths since 2003 for in excess of 220 000 quad bikes in a self regulated off road envireoment.
Purely on percentages, it is no worse than our road tolls, state or National. Our roads are highly regulated, As are the vehicles.
An opportunistic statement by Bill Shorten in my opinion. ( Released the day after news broke of an ATV death in Tasmania. )
And I would like to point out that while many of the deaths occurred on farms, many of those farm deaths were not working at the time, but during recreation.
Pathetic perversion of the truth and a bullshit headline. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

More here.

And yes, the weekly times ar anti quad.
Dunno what they do with their polls. I have a suggestion where they can be put, but they won't publish my pro quad comments. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

It's basically unenforceable anyway, just another publicity stunt for Shorty. He smells a leadership challenge in the offing. _________________ The term "Foolproof" seriously underestimates the ingenuity of Fools.

We have the same law here and helmets are compulsary. Have talked to one of the Dept of Labour investigators about it Their aim is to use the law to change attitudes (which I agee with) but at the same time will throw the book at you if you are stupid enough to let a 7 yearold loose on a 800cc quad after saying there is the gas away you go Unfortunatly she did admit unless someone dobs you in or they happen to do a spot visit the chances of catching you before there has been an accident are slim _________________ Tremble with fear - I've had an idea |

The real issue is being ignored.
Slightlydodgy said it, I've said it, the real issue is farmers attitudes to helmets, for their own personal safety, and adults allowing kids to ride full sized quads.
That is squarely where the blame sits. in my opinion. _________________ Cheers,

Surely you're not suggesting that they have to take responsibility for thier own actions, my god where will it all end. _________________ The term "Foolproof" seriously underestimates the ingenuity of Fools.

My comment to this article:
"Regardless of your viewpoint about quads, and kids riding adult sized bikes, helmets, rollbars or optional training, this talkfest has resulted in more people being aware. Regretably, some people will always die regardless of whatever efforts are made to prevent that.
One only has to look at the road toll, especially at this time of year to see that regulation, primary and secondary safety devices and "best practise" is never 100%. And that is a highly regulated on road environment, not a self regulated off road one. Compare the percentages.....
I would also add that a closer look at the actual incidents would reveal that not all of the incidents were work related. In any case, Workplace Health and Safety, and the media, should be better informed in the future." _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.
