Just found coolant dripping from the water pump on my 450 after weekend ride. Coming from small hole in bottom on water pump housing.
Looked at work shop manual - do I need to remove the side case and replace oil seals and bearings to stop the leak?? -- or is there another reason for the water leak??? Coolant was changed not long ago with genuine yam coolant 50/50 !! But I have just brought the quad. Any advice greatly appriciated. _________________ 04 YFZ450 -

its a common problem on the YFZ's
to do it properly you'll need to take the side case off and replace the bearing and seals and check the shaft out at the same time, if it has any wear on you need to replace that as well or the seals will wear out fast.
if its only a small leak you could try your luck at just putting a new outer seal in, you would only need to take off the w/p cover for this . |
