Our ATVing season is coming to an end, soon some of the trails will be used by snowmobilers. Our bikes will be used for Ice Fishing, snowplowing or mothballed until the spring.
We always try to get one last run in, this is our 3rd year doing this ride. The trails we road are about 200 km (125 Miles) NE of Toronto. We use to help with a car rally call The Rally of The Tall Pines. After 8 years of volunteering it wasn't fun anymore so we now make it a Tall Pines ATV weekend. The ride is mostly on the Heritage Trail which is an abandon railway line, nothing technical just a day out on the bikes. This trail is part of EOTA (Eastern Ontario Trail Alliance). We started west of the town of Bancroft, with 6-10 inches (15-25 cm) of snow, further north we finished at Lake St Peter in 12-14 inches (30-36 cm) with drifting in some areas. We were the first on the trails a few more inches of snow and we might of turned around, the bikes were working hard to break trail. Friends new Outlander sure got a workout! Round trip was about 150 km (93 miles), temperatures: -10C (14F) overcast in the morning, freezing rain on the way back. We were dressed for it the only problem was the ice on the visors. As mentioned this was our third year doing this ride, usually had 4-5 inches (10-12cm) of snow but nothing like we had this time. Enjoy the photos, looking forward to next year.
