the funny part of this as i see it, is the statement about native fauna leaving the area.
we have some property in SA's mid north, and perhaps we have different native fauna than the article refers too, but i can tell you that we scream around on sports quads, not tour along sedately on ag quads, and we have not noticed any reduction of numbers of Roos Emus or Wombats, despite the Kid's best efforts to chase the buggers at every opportunity.
Just an observation

My cousin has 100 odd acres up there, we ride and target shoot. The place is full of dope growing/smoking hippies, been a number of drug busts all around that area. My guess is that's the main flora they are worried about.

He has security cameras and locked gates on the property and has still had trouble with those pot heads trespassing. One time he and his wife were up there sitting and relaxing at the camp when this hippie comes walking up the hill.....actually more like a mountain lol. He must have been so off his head he didn't even see them sitting there, my cousin always has a gun close by so let a couple of rounds off in the air......needless to say the hippie turned into a slippie, slipping on his own "profanity removed" all the way down the mountain.

All a bunch of feral tree huggers around there with my cousin right in the middle off em.....they hate him and have tried calling the cops a number of times because of him shooting, clearing(for fences etc)riding and such but he has all the bases covered such as permits and informing the cops of when he will be shooting. So they call the cops and the cops say "Ah thats just Dave from Gympie Army Disposals having a bit of fun on his block".

Also I can NOT see quads doing any damage there or even causing noise pollution as there are lots of "illegal" trail bike riders & 4x4's that use the area that would cause much more damage than a sedate group of ag quads doing a tour.

You see where National Parks block off existing track entrances only to have people cut in a new track around the blockade!

When are these fools(NP's) going to realise they are causing more damage by blocking of these existing tracks rather than charging people a fee to use the existing tracks (that have been there for many years) whether they are on bikes, quads 4x4's or whatever?

I registered and posted a couple of comments....don't know how long they take to approve them and post them up but I will keep my eye on it.

I would encourage others to do so as well no matter what state they are from, it's time we as a group were heard! Let's jam some common sense down the throat of these idiots and see what comes out the other end.

Lots of people read this sort of stuff and if all they hear is the voice of these bloody environMENTALists than that's what they will take as gospel. Be polite and let the common sense shine through. Speak now or forever hold your peace.

There's still about 3 replies of mine that they have not posted from the other day addressing questions that were directed at me including if I now "Quads4qld" and that I do not know this "Charles" person from a bar of soap along with many other relative points on the matter! Go figure huh.

Don't worry about those things, they only detract from the issue at hand.

If the locals of this area got to experience a few of these "farm quads" being driven in a sedate manner, as they most likely would be on these tours, then there is one less obstacle for the tour operator to deal with.

I think maybe a few of the locals have experienced goons on yammie 450's with yoshie pipes and they think this is the type of machine to be used on the tour??????

I'm fairly certain I could hear the water pipes used for smoking if I listened hard enough up there.
The wingers have no idea the extent of compliance this guy has already gone to, including speed limiting (35km/h as per DERM's trail speed limit) and noise testing the quads.

Actually, this will be a test for the new Premier and his "CanDo crew".
They made policy statements about opening up access on public land for business interests, in the interests of health and well being in a "sustainable manner with the envireoment."
DERM also has a new executive, appointed by the new Government.
And a local Govt election in a month........

Lets see if the new crew have the kahuna's to pull the mean greens into line.

In the mean time, the guy has my support.
Because it's quads, because it's actually our land (we, all the Australian people own it) and because it's time we, as a off road community, got a fair go. Time to "de-nannify" the place I reckon.

You are exactly right in every respect Dino.

With names like "babypossum" & "peaceandquiet" I know my comments will be falling on deaf ears BUT just maybe when other people read it hopefully it will at least make them think just a little. Hopefully enough to make an informed decision rather than just an emotional one.

There needs to be compromise in just about everything in this world but these sorts of people will hear nothing of the sort. Unfortunately this is the me me me mentality that we see so much of today, if theres nothing in it for me then it's no good!

I wonder if someone was to submit an application for say an art gallery, which if popular would increase traffic on the local road, would they kick up a stink and complain? I think not.

RE.: NOOSA QUAD BIKE TOURS We thank everyone for their support. The facts are that one neighbour who is a caretaker of a house which is for sale and whom intends to relocate to Sydney has started objections to council. After an attempt by her to contact the residents in the section of Tablelands Road affected by the proposed tour, not one resident gave her any support, in fact the futile attempt backfired and once I aproached the residents they signed a letter of support for us instead. She managed to raise a group of 5 households alone.These households got every member in their household to submit complaints trying to make it sound like more people. Also Tony wellington the canditate for council and by no means a representtive of the people of Cooran, only met with the handfull of objectors. He also has never made or attempted to make contact with us to confirm, the facts of our application. The road to be used is restricted to 4 wheels drive and trial bikes only. No horses are allowed. We have support from local business, local horse riders and the people, which out numbers the ill informed handfull of objectors. We once again recomend they read the facts and contact us directly to discuss any matters of concern. But to date not one objector has contacted us. It is amazing that a true objector usually has one or two issues of concern, but these limited few appear to harp on evrything they can. We suggest they do something different and come for a quad bike tour. Once again a big thank you to all our supporters.

Yeah she needs to open a few windows up to let the smoke clear so she can see what she's typing. They are a bit slow to upload comments on the weekend as I posted a reply to that one this morning as soon as I read it but it just went up now. Here it is.

OMG! IT IS NOT MY BUSINESS! They are NOT my clients & fortunately with people like you I am very great-full that it is not my neighbourhood. So you consider tourists "unsavoury characters"? That's very interesting & just highlights the mentality normal people have to deal with. "Generally, quad bikers are renowned for their fast life in all aspects." So what? You do realise the majority of clients for a business like this would be tourists, backpackers & family orientated people that work hard, not crime lords, drug addicts & thief's! I hate to break it to you but in that general area there already is a drug & crime problem & it has nothing to do with people on quad bikes! All these "unsavoury activities" that people on a quad bike tour will cause as you put it are in your mind & your mind only.
