Hey All

Ive only recently gotten into quad biking. Just Aquired an 06 Eiger 400 4x4 and so far no amount of mud or incline has been able to stop her so im really impressed. Ive been following the whole rec reg issue with ATV's as im always keen to look for new tracks like everybody else and get out there. Ill often go out with trail biking mates who are all rec regged and just roll the dice on getting caught. Its not that I dont care or the fine wont sting, its just the fact the laws are blatantly wrong when it comes to atvs in state forrests etc.
After a full days riding I find not only am I the only one not injured in someway (as opposed to the 2 wheel riders), Im sure ive done significantly less damage to the enviroment as well. My ATV is 10x quieter than the 2 strokers but most important of all I carry the first aid gear. Ive also dinked an injured rider back to his car too.
Now that ive had my rant id like to ask a couple of questions.

1. Is the fine for riding in a state forrest 3 demerit points and roughly $500
2. Can the DSE confiscate your bike, or the police for that matter
3. Has anyone whos been caught, and not been a smart ass actually gotten a fine? Or are you usually just told to trailer up and piss off?

Im really impressed by the forums here. Everyone seems informed and likes to help out where they can and it seems like a good community to become a part off.

Thanks

howdy bloke

there is no demerrit points for riding a quad in the bush because they CANT be registered so if your grabbed show them any ID except your licence.

the dse canNOT take your bike, if you are in national park anywhere, they have the right to pull you over and ask for id. in state foorrest on a gazzetted road, only the police can make you pull over and check you out, dse can ask you to stop but thats your choice, BUT if you are on S/T they have the right to grab anyone even reg two wheelers.

but if your grabbed by the DSE dont be a smarta$$, just say your sorry and ride off but not straight to your car Very Happy

I'll pm you next time theres a ride up my way if your keen.

Welcome aboard mate.
Yogie pretty much covered it all off, but I can add from my own experience that often DSE & even accompanying police will allow you to just load up & take off if you're not doing anything stupid & you respect the fact that they're just doing thier job.
Enjoy the Aussie bush & most importantly , leave it as ya found it.

cheers..........
