looking at doing my yfz450r frame, swing arm, hubs and bits and peices, ive only rang a few mobs here in south Australia about powder coating but no one seems to do hot pink, thinking maybe I should go a 2pac paint just not sure how long it would last over powder coating, just wondring people's thoughts

If your going to spray it in either 2pac or Waterbased paints make sure whoever does the job doesn't spray the clearcoat too thick or it will just chip off. Also try and get them to use a ceramic clearcoat its the hardest most durable finish you can get. I've refinished a few bike frames and this is by far the best product to use.

Don't give up we had same issue ended up all it was, it was a special order for the colour ($$$$) we are gold coast based and our powder coater had to order the hot pink powder specially from his supplier in sydney.
We got three springs done for my wifes quad normal price was about $70 and the special order colour was $150 and I have to say well worth it!!!
They said something about the powder goes off or something so they don't stock uncommon colours???
Anyway stick to your guns get what you want and yea powdercoat will well outlast 2pack paint!!

Kind of a long story but a couple broken bikes and one the Missus I'm now obligated to build this one for her, it will be her bike but my mx only bike, so hot pink all the way, don't worry il be getting the pink clothes to match lol

as for whether 2pk or powder coat is best, i can't help you. but i will help destroy your dignity and self worth by kacking myself with laughter when i see you riding a pink bike in pink riding gear. in fact i think i'll start laughing now, so i've had plenty of practice when the time comes fast phil lol

this is the colour we want spoke to this company in USA that have it, said I would need around 4lbs worth of powder to do it, but if I order 6lbs worth so just so I know I have enough it would be around 180 delivered and would just new to get some one to do it then

Yea the person who did the job said they just had to order the powder.

I couldn't tell you the name of the company that did the job but if you get in touch with Luke Beechey Motorsports he can tell you, as I had the job done through him.

powder coat for sure. i run an automotive paint shop and can say that 2k paint will not be as ggod as powdercoat, 2k will cost more and u will struggle to get a good gloss of the gun on a frame. as per putting clear over it i wouldnt go that way if u did go 2k, id just go direct gloss.2k clear on a frame will fizz and be so hard to get a good finish. powdercoat ll the way is the way to go.

For what it is worth I would never powder coat a race frame for one very good reason. Because it is so tough and flexible, you will not notice a frame crack developing under the powder coating until it is almost all the way through or fully broken off.

I have seen this with friends frames many times.

2 pack chips too easy.

Rattle can paint is the easiest and you can touch up easy as well. The paint will break at a stress point on the frame giving you warning that there is a potential crack on it's way.

Just the way I do it.

But if the frame is properly gusseted before it's powder-coated, surely that should be enough for the average racer (?)

Yeah, I guess so. Thinking back the stressed frames were from guys doing huge jumps and copping massive g outs so I guess the average racer could get away with it.

No doubt powder coat lasts longer and looks better.

Cool that's who i ended up going through, fast shipping 2, prob have to wait now till after new year for everyone to get going again here's the color, oh and I'm only a average rider shouldn't think I'd be riding that hard to stress my frame, but I can crash em and stress lol

I tend to crash a bit im guessing this would put the frame under stress aswell, come to think of it I have hit the odd purson 2

nah he didn't mind at all, charged me $220 for all that in the pic, plus 4 hubs and few bits
