hey everyone, just wanted to ask a quick question.
i just replaced my oil filter and replaced oil. all goes great. however, (yeah theres always a 'however') when its idling and i hit the trottle it bogs down and almost stalls and chokes sorta. however, if i open the throttle up bout less than a quater for a few seconds and then rev it. it has a crisp response and revs nicely. sometimes if u pull the throttle too quick it stalls or makes a shitty sound out the exhaust and bogs. it did this before oil change by the way. any ideas what i could adjust to fix this. idle speed or something perhaps?
cheers, dan _________________ YFZ 450SE .... oh yeah!

Have you cleaned your air filter lately???
Or changed the spark plug- I spoke to some people recently who ride Yamaha's (so do I) and found out they are f#&ker's for short plug life under certain conditions.
Have you fooled around with fuel or air box??
Are you running 98RON fuel??
If you can eliminate these then you may need to see the dealer you got it from.
Regards

Pretty typical for an FCR Carb, there is an accelerator pump that squirts fuel directly into the inlet ports which is activated in the first part of the throttle movement from fully closed. This results in bogging off idle when you whack the throttle open and can be tricky to get rid of completley but
a good jetting kit and fuel screw should sort you out as then you can fine tune the fuel mixture at that range which will compensate for the pumper. _________________

Huge I think the problem was not going fast enough as you were holding us back up front looking for water for the Big Yellow Sub and it fouled up!! _________________ RAPTOR 660:

No PRO you didnt miss a ride it was the Beerwah ride we were referring to.
Maybe it was the pop-ardier that had us idling in 2nd at 100kph.- I just assumed the hold up was Huge but couldnt see for the dust!! It's only reverse we cant do 100kph- damn limiter!! _________________ RAPTOR 660:

that ride must have been exciting for ya ...that was weeks ago .....
funny eh , even with a missing "popping" motor i still had to stop and wait for ya all to catch up ....... (or was it the dust slowing ya down)
reverse ...who needs reverse ....... ive never had one and i still get home again .....
if all raptor riders take reverse off u might be a wee bit faster ....
he he ...time we did it all again anyway i suppose ...
Huge ...when is the group having another gathering ( and i dont mean the standing around trying to fix Mildgen's bike again either) _________________ It's time too ride !!!!!!! |

Talk about a stolen thread.
danrulz01; Like PeteW said, it's very common due to the type of carb.
Your slide opens quickly, air rushes in and the fuel takes a bit longer to enter thus creating a lean situation.
If you don't know how to jet or don't want to do it yourself get someone to have a look. Correct jetting will more than likely reduce your 'bog'. _________________ Don't close your eyes during the crash, you'll miss the best part |

Try opening your idle/pilot mixture screw(anti-clockwise/out) half a turn. _________________ Cheers-Redted. 04 Raptor |

yeah i've found the yamaha's take alot longer to warm up on choke then alot of others. Make sure the bike is warm before u give it a good blast. Mines always done the same thing, if i try revin it cold. _________________ Thanks to: Hardiman ATV, Team MXN & CRB |
