G'day, a mate of mine called today, while shooting the shite about day to day life he mentioned to me he had an idea to build a riding track. He's a dairy farmer so he doesnt leave his property so he wants to build something he can enjoy. In short he has 3acres he has allocated for the track, an excavator & a crap load of dirt to move around. I have no idea about track design but my friend wants a mud pit (with optional bypass) for non mudders , whoops, technical stuff, a few obstacles, jumps & a kids track, if anyone has any sketches/layouts etc post them or PM me. Cheers JB Wink

You really need to work with the terrain and features that you have got.
Crests and small hills are good ingredients for the start of a jump.
I'd suggest getting a couple of quads and riding a track in without jumps first.
While doint this, imagine the obstacles, or build small kickers here and there to get a feel for the flow.
Use the natural ground shape as much as possible.

Make your turns full 180 degree where possible. You'll get more track in a smaller area. If you have a blank canvass it could look like a piece of spagetti cosstantly turning back on itself, with jumps on all the straights between switch-backs.
A gentle slope one way is good, and it is usually wise to use it in a track direction that considers water run off. If most of your straights run up and down the hill, errosion scouring is more of a problem.
So run across the slope as much as possible, switch-back and run back the other way across the hill again. sort of like dropping down terraces. Obviously once you get to the bottom, you will need one straight up the side to get you back up to the top for a second lap, and that stretch might be high maintenance if you are powering up hill and allways throwing roost down hill behind you (and water errosion ruts washing down too).

What ever you build... you'll be bored with the big jumps in a week laughing So you don't have to get it right in one hit anyway. You'll want to change it from time to time Smile
