I'm going to the US soon and was looking to get some new shocks whilst over there.

Was planning on putting them in the luggage for the trip back

Does anyone know if this will be a drama? Will I be told to take them out and post them back?

Cheers

make sure you dont put it in carry on because they will keep you there for ages while they cheek for gun parts (not even joking) because in the past the have concealed them in cameras and such because they blend in if you put it in check in you should be fine

If they cost under $1000US then there is no issue as long as you have a receipt. Over $1000US and you will have to declare them and pay GST.

yeah not concerned about the GST, its more of them thinking they are an explosive issue, with the compressed gas and oils in them

Just make sure to pack them with lots of white powder for packing & the shockers will be the last thing they look at. laughing laughing eek

you need to release the gas if you put the in your luggage. tip don't do it at the airport in front of the security guards....

otherwise just post them back to yourself

Strap them to your chest, sweat a lot and
mumble about the end of the world a lot.
Very Happy

I've been to the US a bunch of times and lived there for a few years for work and I'd post them mate to avoid the potential (and likely) hassle. Last thing you want to worry about when you get to the airport is being stuck with shocks you can't take home. US Post is much cheaper than Aussie Post and you can insure it and get a tracking number. If you send them in 3 different packages I guess you could avoid the GST? Or alternatively claim that they cost less than $1000 for the three.

What brand are you getting?

have them in your bag and keep asking security (with an accent) "what time will you be turning the metal detectors off?"

Why are you wanting to buy them in the US as you will have no support for them here in Australia if you have any issues with them!!!
I'm pretty sure Lenny doesn't like people buying them from US and I'm pretty sure Lenny has said he would match any US price over here!!!

Hi Neil ,

Craig is looking at them from me , but he would like to pick them up to save a little.
I'm ok if people want to purchase in USA , however I have seen a lot of shocks that are not the right spec for Australia or apples for apples in the model.

We have worked with Wayne the owner of PEP suspension over the past 7 years and come up with a really good OZ spec from the likes of Yewers, Lancaster, Watson, Holmes and varoious great racers from each class and disaplin.

Also I have priced against the US before exept I would quote top of the line and miss the deal by a few hundred dollars only to find they were supplied non PB1 with no Rebound .

like wise with other suspension suppliers in Australia

no matter where you buy them off someone in Australia you won't have the hassle of shipping and getting the wroung ones.

also if you have any problems with them you have someone to talk to.

look I'm not having a crack at the crowd I bought them off, because s#it happens but, the hassel of finally getting them, then finding out they were wrong, was never going to end, and thats why whether you walk into a shop in oz or the usa, you buy what you want because you can see them in front of you and lets face it, if there was a warrenty issue, posting shocks to Vic for eg or the usa, is going to take the same amount of time and costs.

Hey Yogie I helped set up suspension at the Nationals to people who didn't even purchase suspension from me. I feel I can offer much better personal service than USA .
Good luck sending anything back to the USA with a quick turn around .
It sounds like you have been disapointed by OZ suppliers , pity because some of us do care & actually like servicing our customers Wink
