 |
|
Am in the market for a quad made in this century, and with more horsepower than gears (this will be a pleasant change from my Agi, which struggles on the sand).
Have decided on a 700 and am leaning towards a Raptor, But I am a bit of a Hondaphile, and keep on looking at Mr Hondas big sports Quad... Whatever I get will be used almost exclusivly on Stockton Beach, I think that my time on the sand will bring joy to Wa Wa.
I know they are pretty heavy, but apart from that, what issues do they suffer from?
Also, have heard from people that have ridden them, that they dont slide well on the sand due to the IRS..
Any imput from TRX700 riders would be welcome.. |

Would have given the KFX 700 serious thought if you could get em with a manual box, I dont like the old bloke "twist n go" option.. even my agi TRX has 5 real gears, albeit with centrifugal clutch.
The big Kwakas do sound good though... right up til they start sounding like they have a slipping clutch. Also the fact I will never own a green bike, I believe Honda and Yamaha make a heaps better product.
Having said that, Rebs' Kwaka does one hell of a good job to haul his fat ass around, without expiring in a cloud of smoke and steam.
Reckon its down to the Yammy. |

I'm not saying one is better than the other but I wouldn't discount anything before trying it out. As far as clutches going up in smoke....it can happen to anything. I've never had a prob with belts or clutch on my Brute. The Rappy would be a good choice if you are a bigger bloke for sure. I would just be weary of any company that pushes generators or musical instruments more than their ATV line! _________________ "Happiness is like peeing your pants, everyone can see it but only you can feel it"

Not worried so much about the clutch actually burning out, more that CVTs sound like the cluctch is slipping.
Funnily enough I also own a Yamaha Organ. cant play it though... |

OK fair enough. Have you ridden any of the above to see which one feels right for you? Actually the kwacka cvt sort of sounds like a supercharger/blower......at least that's what I tell myself. _________________ "Happiness is like peeing your pants, everyone can see it but only you can feel it"

Just bought the Honda 700xx recently myself & still getting used to it. I can say though that the transition from a straight axle (400ex) to the IRS quad was not the big deal that some people make it out to be. Having said that, I only ride sand once a year & the rest of the time on muddy scrappy & rutted trails where the Honda is in it's element. If you're only gonna ride sand then the Raptor is still the undisputed Dunemaster, but if you want a serious allrounder go for the Honda.
I must admit just for a moment or two I did miss sliding my little 400 around at Sandfest this year.
Enjoy the ride whatever you choose.... _________________ The term "Foolproof" seriously underestimates the ingenuity of Fools.

I have just got a TRX700 and i agree with Priesty,it is not a big transition if you can ride at all.My straight axle quad has a dust cover on it now.
As far as sand, like anything, you will need to ride it.
The Raptor is excellent in the dunes from what i gather off USA forums.
Maybe ask there.

I use my raptor for everything it is a great trail machine with enough ground clearance for the average rider.
I also go out to the dunes and it is awesome.
The raptor is lighter and more nimble than the honda.
The amount of after market gear for the raptor is unbelievable.
The suspension is better on the raptor
You don't need IRS on a dune bike.
The raptor is a proven performer.
I test rode both bikes and the raptor came up tops.
Here is a pic of my bike.
Just buy the raptor you won't be sorry. |

I mainly wanted an IRS sport quad.2 choices-trx700 or Polaris 525.
A trx700 came up for the right money ($4500 with little use)so bought it.
This allows me to put shocks on and change tyres(pretty normal) and still have change.
I would have been happy with a 400 but no IRS.

Cool,I have looked at USA forums, pretty helpful.
I will do front shocks first ,then some decent tyres!
i may get the sway bar,I'll see how it goes.
Good luck with your racing,I will keep an eye on it!

Just received my L8ton sway bar tonight. Looks good can't wait to try it out.
Oh yeah & the adjustable front arms make a huge difference to turn in.
cheers.... _________________ The term "Foolproof" seriously underestimates the ingenuity of Fools.
