Sweet sounds good make sure you post up the build.
Is the crf, the you can get ahold of the 450x elec start model.or the rear kick motorcross model? That is the only real issue i can see you having.Other than that i reckon itll be a weapon yeh the 450 bikes were ment to have more go off the showroom different cam specs if i remember correctly? Cant wait to see your finished product.I did always like the look of the 400ex's.Do you have the early model one with the headlights up top? Or the newer 450 style one?

the motor i've got is the motocross version
and my bike is the newer 450 style
while im doing the engine swap i'll also try to reduce as much weight and gusset the frame
should be good ive done engine conversions in cars but bikes should be a new experience

2 of the new engine mounts i made up
the front mount will need a few holes drilled into it to lighten it up

as you can see not much room for the air intake pipe
so ill be removing a section of the frame and rebuilding it so the intake pipe will fit

i have turned the shock around to get a bit more clearance for the motor

hey

grats for having the balls to give it a go.

2 suggestions for you to double check

make sure u keep the front sproket on the motor below the top of the swingarm. 5 - 10 mm is fine, but remember the stock gearing on the crf will be useless to you due to the quads smaller rear tyres. so you will need a bigger front sproket, and run the stock rear quad sproket.
i have a feeling the stock front on the crf is around the 13 tooth mark, so you will need at least a 16 tooth front on there, if you wanna get past 100 kph.

if you have it set right with a 13 tooth,a 16 tooth will cause u issues so set your engine to suit a 16 to begin with.

(reason)
if your front sproket is above your chain slider on your swingarm, when the suspension compresses the chain will get looser not tighter.
this will cause you all sorts of grief.
must be avoided if possible.

and do you have enough room with the guard on to rotate the kik starter?

other then that keep up with the updates....

i would also be hesitant to cut the frame where the rear shock mount is.

surely its easier to get a custom intake made then to weaken one of the most critical points in your chassis rigidity.

the front sprocket sits below the swing arm just a touch
its got a 15 tooth on it a 16 won't fit with out grinding in to the cases and the swing arm
before i go cutting into the frame i will be adding in some supports for the
shockie mount. on other hybrid frames i've looked at they have had to cut the rail there is only 2 inches between the intake on the carb and the frame rail
the intake sits right in the middle of the rail as well
i was going to make a manifold that sits on the carb and drops down so it would clear but there simply is not enough room
also i don't have a kick start yet but i know i'm going to have to make a modified knuckle to get it to clear the frame
and a modified gear shifter 2
i'm also going to use yfz450 radiator
it's fighting me all the way so far but i'm not going to let it win!!!

if your chain alignment is all good then i would work on the kik starter as a first priority.

if you cant start the thing your waisting your time.

have u considered not running the swingarm bolt thru the case and moving the whole engine forward 1 inch?

this will help with the carbi and also the kik starter.
