Ok People i need to advice for i mite be a proctective parent LOL

I have a 10 year old son who races a 90 raptor at the moment and at the last race he asked if he can get a bigger bike, because he is to small for the bike he is on (90 raptor) he is oneof them kids that his happy just to be on the race track and riding he pretty much comes last at every race he dose LOL he just looks around the track and bush as he rides LOL.. but he did finish 5th over alll in club points because he was there at every race and finished every race Very Happy . but the next bike i can put him onis a 125 raptor ( i get good deals with Yamaha for i am sponsored by a shop) but for how he rides (casualy around the track ) and his age 10 , am i wrong in thinking its too soon and hes not ready to go to a bike with gears and alot bigger ? or is it me been over proctive ? i also have a nother child who is one of those freaks on a bike and he needs to be on a 125 for he says everytime he races the bike is breaking down (umm no thata the rev limiter LOL) but this question is about my 10 year old boy (mr casual rider ) Help or advie please Very Happy

the easiest way would be to put him on one ,so he can try it for himself. but yeah i know where you are coming from with the gears issue.

Should be able to deal with gears and a clutch at ten... Do the 125s have a proper clutch or centrifugal?

hey guys, I too have a 9 year old who rides a raptor 90, but when we go bush riding he jumps on my sisters 125 raptor and has a ball, I was really surprised he picked it up straight away ( clutch etc ) he has trouble remembering to go back to first for take offs, but they are a awesome bike for kids to begin on from my point of veiw Smile

There was a great incentive to buy now advertised during the GP, check it out, free helmet boots, camping gear, $500 yamaha dollars

worth a look to do it now, rather than later

And don't most of the bolt on bits for the 250 fit as the frame is the same.

How cool, He should go well I think...

Been through the 2 juniors going through bike changes
2 x 70cc 3 wheelers
2 x 90cc
then 2 x blasters
now on 450's they pay for themselves Smile

your son is alot taller so the 125 might suit him a treat, cant wait to watch him ride !

My 11yr old son has had a raptor 90 for 5 months and already wants something faster. I should've bought the 125 straight up and not stuffed around with the 90

Well i went out with him today and it took all of min for him to learn the clutch so we are cooking Very Happy . i set 6 20ltr buckets up around a flat park area and told him to pull up at each one and put it in netural and the put it back in gear and drive of to next bucket and do the same again . he did that for a while and got the hang so i showed him how to change gears and well thats a bad thing for now he likes to go fast LOL .. oh well good times ahead and it was worth the change Very Happy

i managed to teach my kids 11 .. and 9 to ride gears by sticking them in front of me and having them work the clutch and throttle while i changed gears ... after 20mins of showing them when they need to change so they didnt rev the crap out of the motor or stall up a hill by having too high a gear i swaped and had them do the gears and throttle while i did the clutch for another for another 20 mins then i took them back to the clutch again and we did stop starts ... so they could get used to finding first understanding netural and get the feel of taking off without letting the clutch out too fast or too slow .. after 10 minutes of that i hoped off the quad and off they went and i didnt see my quad for the rest of the day ...

the 11 year old said i could ride her new 250 instead ......so now my 11 year old who is 12 rides my 700 or her mothers 350 and the boy has dumped the quad for a bike with gears...
