 |
|
2nd Oct
I'm going to go for a dune/beach ride a few weekends away. It's about 30 minutes north of Bridport.
Would anyone else be interested in coming along? At the moment it's me and 4 other mates all with quads.
It's very wet there at the moment and will involve trailing through a bit of knee deep water to get there. It's a place that you really need local knowledge to get to that knows were the road it under the water. (myself)
So if your keen for some really steep dune climbs and flat beach runs come along! It'll be a while before the road is emerged and the track back to normal I reckon.
There is heaps of space to camp there before the track too if that's what you want to do.

Nah just for the day. Probably be there about 9-10 am and leave about 4-5pm.
Would meet in Scottsdale to get food, petrol and sh!t and go from there.
It's only wet track to get there, once you're past the track it's all beach and dry dunes. But the track is very, very wet. You'll have to kneel on the seat because the water will be past the engine for about 50 meters then it's pretty dry. Few wet spots. Just bring a change of clothes if you don't have riding gear as you might stall or get stuck and have to get off and push. But if you keep it in second and putt through you'll be right.
I'll be taking the video cameras too. |

Me and a mate camped at Big Wtaerhouse Lake for a few days last year and found an old track near the camp site back into the dunes.
It's pretty overgrown and hard to find but there is some good riding in the dunes and the beach.
The water was very high in the lake at the time and the usually dry rivulet was breaking to sea very fast near the Blackmans Lagoon beach track.
Attached is a Goggle Earth image of where we were.

| Yeah there's a few tracks there. Where the river comes out is crossable but you're pretty guareeteed to have to get out and push. |

When I was there last year it was 2 meters deep. We did have a lot of rain prior to that though. In saying that, we've also had a lot of rain lately . _________________ 2010 Sukuki

Here are a couple of links from Parks & Wildlife Tasmania which shows riding and driving spots in the State.
If everybody did the right thing we would keep the ability to ride all these great spots and not end up like some of the mainland States that have virtually none.

Great links mate thanks!
Here is the Blackman's section of the PDF. So all good to ride on.
11. Waterhouse and other roads - Easy
Tasmap 1:100 000 - Cape Portland
Grid Refs: See Below
Contact: PWS Bridport (03) 6356 1173
Waterhouse Road is an alternative route of about 60
kms between Bridport and Gladstone. It provides access
to the beautiful Waterhouse Conservation Area via
Homestead Rd (Grid Ref 693549) and Blackmans Lagoon
Rd (Grid Ref 690519). Under the Waterhouse
Conservation Area Management Plan 2003 all off-road
use of vehicles in the reserve must have a written
authority from the PWS. Under this authority, beach
driving is permitted on West Tomahawk Beach
(sometimes called East Ransons Beach) east of the boat
launching site at the end of Homestead Road. Good trout
fishing is to be had at Blackmans Lagoon, where there is
a track from the lagoon through to Waterhouse Beach and
beach driving is permitted to the southern limit of
the reserve. There is bush camping available at various
sites within Waterhouse Conservation Area along the
Homestead Road. The nearby township of Tomahawk
has a shop and caravan park and can be reached by
Tomahawk Road (Grid Ref 702651). |
