So i've had it for just over a month. The flat plate connecting the handle bars to the steering coloum has a fracture around it and the support weld has broken. Not good. I've spoken to the importer expressing my concern for safety, although the bike runs really well. The importer is prepared to replace and i'll be giving the the steering some extra welds. |

TasATV. I know that 99 percent of people on here dont believe that the imported ATV's are any good, that no one should buy them etc etc etc.
Well iam here to tell you that ive had mine now for 6 years and apart from a new battery and a refashioned battery box, 2 new plugs, a new starter solenoid and back tyres, the quad has not stopped, I use it out west shooting/dogging so it just doesnt ride around on dirt tracks, it gets a fair punishing. Yes you get what you pay for but ive certainly got better things to do with 8+ grand than spend it on a Jap Quad that will not do the job any better than what my Chinese 'junkseng' does

I wouldnt say we dont agree with chinese/Japanese quad imports
they just have alot of quality issues ie things break and fall off. I agree if you are just starting in quads they maybe the way to go but you will get more enjoyment out of riding a named brand rather than fix your quad all the time??? Just a thought _________________ Darren Colbert

I have 4 Honda machines with the oldest being 27 years old.
It is a little 70 and is getting restored now, my 1985 ATC350X and 1986 ATC200X models are just as good as they were back when they were built with just regular servicing and some reasonably hard riding.
I just wonder if any of the chinese ones will be around in 27 years time and will you still be able to find parts for them. |

Your point is noted but I've had first hand experience with four different Chineses import machines and all have failed on their very first outing.
2 Quads, 1 Dirt Bike and one Beach Buggy. These are true stories.
Quad 1 - The needle in the carby failed. Tow back to camp job.
Quad 2 - The chain tensioner failed. Every time it went up a bit of a rise under power the chain would fly off. In the end it was quicker to tow back than to keep trying to put the chain back on.
Dirt bike - First kick start in the bush and the kick starter snapped off. Enough said.
Dune Buggy - First outing at the beach the alternator burnt out.
I know of another incident where the throttle on an imported quad jammed wide open and put the rider into a fence.
As I said, all of the above are real stories so it's no wonder that 99% (You mentioned that figure) of people are wary about these types of machines. _________________ 2010 Sukuki

I can get parts for them easily what is the problem.
When ever I go for a ride in a popular place in Renmark I find bits of them everywhere (no joke).
Let me know what you need I will see if I can find something that has fallen off of somebody's bike.
I'm actually getting sick of cleaning up after the people that ride this junk they seem to leave their rubbish from Mc donalds and nappies from their babies strewn on the ground.
It's no wonder riding spots get the gates closed. |

I reckon the chinese quads will be ok enough in a few more years. A number of decades ago there were the same complaints about another nation trying to sell their inferior stuff. Some country called Japan and they seem to be doing ok now. Hyundai (Korean) has aslo gone from a joke when they first came out to one of the most reliable cars around. Recent NRMA article reckoned they were more reliable than both Ford and Holden (ok that might not be too hard). Kymco (Taiwan) has also been getting great reviews in one of the US ATV mags I subscribe to.
More options and more competition can only be better for us. In the end you choose where you spend your own $s, no one else should make that decision for you. Buy whatever you want as long as you are also willing to take the result whether it be good, bad or indifferent.
I do own a Jap Quad but I am not ruling out any option as to where the next one might come from.
My 2c. Cheers. |
