Slide out ramps, so I don't have to carry ramps and they can't be lost.

Doesn't mean you can't have slide out ramps.

Lots of tie down points, preferably the ones flush with the floor.
Some sides would be useful so one can throw in some junk.
Suspension good for corrugations.
Electrics that work and don't rust too quickly.
Wheels. They're essential.

Hey Yogie
I am looking to get a flat bed trailer built very shortly.
It will need to do a few different jobs so is a compimise of a few designs.
# It needs to carry 2 full size and 1 small Quad and 2 small mx bikes with a bit of camping gear.
# I want to be able to carry long lengths of building material/roofing.
# Maybe some square holes to drop in some tube for sides if I chose to carry taller items.
# Some sort of shade off the side for the kitchen area when camping with the family.
I will watch this thread
Good luck

Cheers Mike

Try to go LED tail lights so then they done have to worry about blowing globes, go the AL KO axels to keep the trailer low to the ground. and if you can make sides on it that fols down ar ramps (they are sides when trailer is closed and ramps to load trailer when there down. make as much as you can in alloy to Smile and make a spot and suplpy a spare tyre too Very Happy

I've got enough on my plate with my one and the rest of the school at the moment as it is without doing Yogie's designs for him too lol. Laughing

Might knock one a design if I get time, flat top, slide out ramps and a yamaha on it not a Kawasaki tractor.

Haha its going real good now, I've sort of lost my keenness to ride a bit though so I'm not real sure on what I am doing. Hopefully a bit of speedway will get me charging again before TP300.

Yogie, I have a flat top trailer that has tie down rails running underneath, like a truck tray (originally trailer wasn't made for quads) but my tie downs are fraying !!!

Iv'e been doing a lot of thinking about what I am going to do. There are two absolute criteria....

1 must be strong
2 cannot be anything that will catch my toes on

For simplicity, cutting into the floor for those recessed loops is too hard, so I think the simplest thind is to cut "T" shapes into the floor/frame and put a few links of chain onto the end of my tie downs. This way I can cut heaps of the "T" shapes into the floor and use any one of them depending which quad goes where or which way they are loaded (from left or right). The chain simply drops in and slides toward the load. Even if the load becomes loose, it has to move a lot before the chain could even get close to coming out.

You would see something similar on farm gates.

As for what would I like to see on a trailer.

Swing down ramps
Small lockable tool box
Small water tank
Solid points to chain the quads to

Previous experience of side loading trailers is that some quad plastics don't like sideways airflow at 100kph plus, mainly red ones.

Hey Yogie,

I will take you up on the offer for a bit of advice. I want to build a trailer for 2 Quads but can also double to cart hay etc for horses. Would like it to be a tandem but also dont want it too long. Thinking about 1 side load Quad at the front and a rear load for the second. Any advice, hints, tips, pics you could help me with?

firstly dont be thinking you have to build a tandem trailer, my double quad trailer is a single axel, and is nearly 5 metres long (an old caravan chassis) Pm me your email addy and I'll send you some pics and a more detailed answer.

The family looks to enjoy the bush camping and riding so a trailer looks on the cards, if I can find the money a new Gal trailer would be the go but on a budget we will make do
I have been borrowing a friends trailer and well its a bit on the big side so scaling down to fit three quads and one motor bike + camping gear would be ideal 4.0 long and 2100 between side rails to squeeze quads sideways, wheels under tray and then utilize area under to store 2 x Oztents, sleeping bags, stretchers and self inflting mattresses would be great jerry can holders x 2 gas bottle holder x 1 and three space cases for the kids riding gear, helmets and and and the list would go on Smile
