turn pet-cock off Very Happy
lift YFZ-450 into vertical position,,, straight spine, use your knees
spray entire quad, wheels every thing with CT18 truck wash, dilute 10-1 in spray bottle,,,lasts forever....
high pressure water blaster {$100 Chinese version from auto-pro, some are $69}
keep HP water nozzle at least 6 inches away from point of contact
keep water nozzle away from bearings & carby
don’t use the needle water cutting kill ya dead nozzle,,, fan-it out
have fun blasting for 10 minutes
O.K. stop blasting
Spray entire quad again with truck wash dilute
and soft bristle brush all area's tires, every where
you can buy fancy different shape brushes from Kmart to get into tricky area's chain etc
Blast again for 10 minutes
drop it on 4 wheels
spray
brush
and blast a final time
water blast air box internals with caution,, put a condom on your filter
.
I've got it down to about 20 to 25 minutes

let it dry
Lanotec all electrical area’s
Inox chain
.
.
.
.
next time you race,, you have just enough petrol in the lines and bowl to warm -up and almost make the Holeshot before adjusting your pet-cock Laughing Laughing Laughing

Dan , only one point missed above , put the bike into first gear and it will make it easier to tip upwards..... I do this with mine and it takes no more than 10 mins with a waterblaster. Then i use hot soapy water ( armourall from Super cheap) throw it about a bit , hose down with hose and spray liberally with WD40 ,

I then start the bike up and run it for 10 mins to make sure all the water is evapourated around the engine and radiator etc.

It takes a while to get a routine going ...after that its easy.

before I start washing I put back on my airbox lid sealed up with grey race tape to save wetting the airfilter (if its still clean). If you use first gear to help stand it up like i do n prokiwi suggested, knock it in neutral or hold the clutch before lowering to save damaging the gearbox (i usually climb on the bike and apply the brakes when lowering it. it helps to get a hand to lift it up, especially if ur knackered from racing...

given the water restrictions (in SA anyway) with the drought I think you'd find it illegal to wash it down with a hose. pressure cleaners are fine. try bunnings or super cheap for a cheap electric pressure washer or fork out a 300 or 400 for a petrol one you can use trackside at motox's etc to get the mud off radiators etc between races.

nah, dont worry bout a pressure washer to much, just get a nozzle on your hose to increase the pressure a bit,

make sure your in the shade

dilute a bit of OMO liquid with water (bout 10:1, (10 being water)), put it into a spray bottle and spray all over everything.

wait a minute, dont let it dry just give it a bit of time to loosen the dirt.

hose bike off and wollah, clean as a whistle Very Happy

give it a go, trust me it works

The only way we can wash our quads down here is with grey water from the washing machine. Some of us that have rain tanks are OK but many of us just have to leave them dirty.

Take it down to car luvers....

Oh and the pressure cleaner is the best $100 bucks you can spend! Would have stopped riding years ago if it wasn't for that little water blaster in the shed, bugger using a normal hose!

WORD OF WARNING!

If you lift your quad upright, you may get fuel running from the carb back into the air filter which will wash the filter oil off you filter and in time, damage the element! I know, it has happened to me. With a dry patch of filter now at the underside of the element, where you can't see it, your engine will be prone to sucking in dust and sand.
If you must lift your quad up, drain the fuel from the float bowl first or do what I do and simply tip your quad to the side with a milk crate under the bars as support.

Surely you check/clean/replace your filter often enough for this to not even be an issue??? Surprised Hrm
Our bikes rarely have an air filter attached during washing...its always cleaned and drying-off on the bench prior to washing the quad, and a little shower cap type food cover thingy to seal over the hole in the airbox.

FYI: My brother had a dusted engine with his first Predator, but that was caused by the shonky box/filter design on the first-year Predators. It happened to quite a few of the Predators down here. I hear the fault has been sorted out since then though.

Brad!! Totally bikeless or just sold the quads? Temporary i hope?

Ok, but lifting the quad upright is my point. 9 times out of 10, it will wash the oil off the filter and doesn't care about the reason for lifting the quad in the first place. I had this happen to my BANSHEE, not the predator. I never ran the std air filter set up with the predator. Just be aware, thats all.

my suggestion is to get the quad as filthy as possible have fun and if having all this mud and dirt on the quad drives you to drink .... ALL THE MORE REASON TO DO IT
