I hear rumors that the QQRA might go under because of lack of support .... i no everyone has there opinion on y this might happen, but i think to keep the club alive we should voice our opinions insted of sayin it behind everyone.... so these r my thought n ideas.......talkin to sherlock on the weekend n he said he is happy to stand down as president...i think he is sick of the work load because no one wants to help out, n from wat im hearin around the pits there is a bit of bad blood between a lot of people and the qqra officials and on how things have been done....now bein new to the sport i can only judge on wat i hear...so the book is still open on a few people.....this is wat i propose ...i'm willin to elect my self for the presidents possition only if i can get the support ,c because im new to this sport i dont no alot of people n the way things r run im gonna need help and seein how passionate a lot of u r about quad riding i think if we all speak up an act as a club instead of one or two people makin all of the decisions we all get a say on how the club is run.....i think all the qqra needs is a good facelift to take it in the right direction a whole new commity is all it would take for this club to be as strong as any in australia.........hey if ya dont like my idea fair enough but giv us more ideas....we cant let this club die... so please get off the fence n voice ur oppinion Cool or ya could just tell me to shut up Hrm

In my opinion the QQRA has one purpose, to promote MX. Until this changes they wont get the support of the large "recreational" riding community in Queensland. However I know this has been broached before and few were willing to help. Anyway, good luck, I hope things go well for the QQRA.

Cheers,

Greg

Greg says it perfectly.
History says the market is in recreational riding, in this country , and around the world.

You have to have recreational riding to introduce to new players , before you can entice them to a specific discipline within the sport.

Add as many recreational events as you have MX events to the calender and it will grow.

Good luck.

Sounds like similar isues all over and I know the QRCV basically runs motocross and bugger all else atm. As you say Chris its up to people to dig deep and have a go.

Im relatively new to the sport/politics etc down here myself and we have the same/similar hurdles it seems.

But we have a few guys on the same page and perhaps willing to get work done.

In the short term under the auspices of the QRCV I can only suggest that it will be some type of increase in eventing. But we may also look to start the ownership of our own club homegrounds as such. We will search out our opportunities as the few people who have put their hands up get the opportunity to get together and work on it again.

It seems many people have tried and many people have died in the cruciable that is getting rec riding in some form in the past, well meaning and knowledgable people. All over Australia, except for Tas which has rec reg, lucky b^%$$#@.

I certainly hope that it doesnt come to QQRA folding and that you can work on some rec riding activities to start and pull the communities together. However I'd suggest you flush out the real go getters for your support before you go straight to the top or you're just going to find yourself in the same situation as the outgoing pres and less his influence and support.

I'd like to keep in touch and see if we cant get idea's to spread and work across state lines.

Quading is in a very tenuous position right now and I dont know if people realise how tenuous that position is.

In terms of growth we have a mini-boom in growth, people are interested in riding the machinery available and are interested in getting the sport going in all its forms. But the sport previously was a cottage industry with little needs for the support of 3-4 eager people per state.

Increased demand has seen little increase in the way of support staff and so like a balloon the organisations and preassures on them are growing like a ballon and like in the case of your state there shows sign of popping. In our state it seems the balloon is being confined to a tight box and that may be a good thing that we dont outgrow our support yet, but that also means a lot of potential new riders are missing the opportunity to become involved.

NSW are complaining of the preassure of decreasing rec riding sites and some states have never had anything.

Everybody is looking for that elusive answer. I hope we can work something out for the good of quading Australia wide coz this boom may quickly bust back to local clubs if changes are not made.

Garner your support and keep everyone who is in the club at the club and just inject your enthusiasm while you can gather the other die hard supporters to a cause you can work towards with Rec riding.

I still note with some dismay that despite commentary on several parts of the site about the potential of boom (and then maybe bust) that there is little if anything said by even a dealership let alone the heads of companies for these vehicles in the way of support and yet they a very big $ vested interest in the little guy making thisd work and they should become the big guy supporting the little guy.

Good luck. Hang tough and stay in touch. We'll share idea's and support.

Rgds

Gavin

well to u all i agree, we need to open a window of opportunity in all disciplines of the sport, in saying this i dont want to take on the whole work load to organise trail rides,mx events, super motard etc. we need a good following and leadership in every aspect of quad riding, we can sit here all day and ask wat will the club do for me? but when it comes down to it , its wat can i do for the club.

This is wat i was after, ideas ,if this club is to keep on movin forward we need to cater for everyone, and i beleive to do this we need a big commitee consiting of riders from all disciplines so that everyones best interest are at hand. No quad club can be run solely by mx riders and be expected to cater for everyones needs, this would just burn people out and would make for a hard job.

Lets say the club got this facelift, how many of u would actually join and help out in organising and running these trail/genaral riding events, i'm all for it and would love to see weekend trips to parks with big numbers just for club members, and a massive end of year xmas bash for the whole family to enjoy wit the club taking on the park fees. If we giv to the club, i'm sure the club will giv back...

Me , i love mx , and i realise only a minority do and to get a better following of quad ridding in general we need to start making it more appealing to families.....so lets stop bitchin about each other behind backs and get it sorted so we can all enjoy the hobby we love....

Sounds like you want to make the club similar to what it use to be 4 or 5 years ago. Smile

It was tops.
Im not saying that the blokes who took it over ruined it but like you said its all MX now.
They did Dirt Track Thundercross and MX all in the one series and had a few get togethers with any cash made going to the club. Was great fun. Went to kingston park for a chrissy get together. Did some social camp outs at Blackduck. I was only 12 yrs old so I missed out on racing but the social side of things was fun. Smile

hi guys,

good discussions happening here, its pleasing to see people interested in the sport we plow so much money into!
To be honest, the club is fine. Every year we maintain the same number of members, although we would like to keep members from leaving which is a real problem. We have money in the bank and we have a good structure. Unfortunatley, like most clubs, we only have 2 or 3 people helping to run it and it seems like most of our members are mx related.
We attended the Gold Coast Cup this year and only 4 of us turned up, so that tells you what flat track is like at the moment. On the other hand, mx is doing well with another successful state titles things are on the up.What we do need is a couple of keen people to push things along, if your interested the work load is what you make it but we do need the help!
Our club meeting is this wednesday night at gatton, see qld posting, if you wish to attend and voice your opinion everyone is welcome. see you there.

To all Members,

The situation here is being mirrored in many forms of motorsport around the country. I was an active member and racer in the PWC scene up until 2008. Slowly, I have watched the sport implode in QLD through infighting, personal agendas and grand standing. Where we used to have 40 to 60 people turn up to an event, the sport struggles to get 15. Time and time again, clubs have tried to increase the social side, without success. People are too busy, not willing to pitch in and have neither the time nor the money to attend an event that is held in the Boondocks somewhere.

As the age of the club member increases, attending events means sacrificing time from loved ones and responsibilities. So, for the social club scene to work, there needs to be planned involvement and activities for partners and children alike. This costs money and is time pregnant to set up. Also, the venue for the rec ride needs to be close - an impossibility unless the event is held in a "questionable" venue.

To move forward, a club President must be willing to accept new ideas from members, have an open dialogue and put the interests of members first.

Idea 1. Hire out an MX track for the day, put on a BBQ and allow everyone to try out the jumps and stuff at their own pace.

Idea 2. Get exposure - Create an event that is geographically central to all, run it twice a year and build it. Invite everyone who has a GoPro (or similar) to supply video, combine into a great movie and publish it on Youtube.

Idea 3. Organise a charity event - we did the Tsunami ride some years ago - had 300 riders and attracted heaps of positive publicity.

Let me know if you want more.................

Oh. And a couple of other things.

Support the elected officials of the club, even if their ideas differ from yours. It is a thankless job and one that requires stupid amounts of time. Officials are caught between pleasing individual members and balancing the good of the club. Offer advice and suggestions to help the club move forward. Dissention and ridicule can quickly splinter any group, so work together to create a unified force.

Since, as mentioned earlier, geography or time restricts attendance at club meetings, phone in and, via speakerphone, voice your thoughts. This process has worked well in other sports and increases participation in club rulings and promotes accord.

Hi,
The original posts on this topic were in 2008.
The QQRA has come along way since then.
We hosted the 2010 qld titles at Coolum last year and we are running the nationals this year in October.
On the social side we hold a number of social weekends every couple of months.
Our next one is at Manar Park on the long weekend in June.
Visit our website qldqra.com
We also have a practise day on the 14th may at Coolum .

thanks scotty
