I have made a PDF version of JAN/FEB Dual Roost ATV Magazine and uploaded it to the club website. Go ahead and download it FOR FREE from http://www.dualroost.com.au/index.php?option=com_jdownloads&Itemid=157&view=viewcategory&catid=4
Current members should receive their hard copy in the post in the next few days.
I welcome everyone's feed back on reading it from a PDF as it costs a small fortune to print and post each mag and distributing electronically would significantly reduce our distribution costs and spread our sponsorship dollars further. _________________ Proud Member of QuadridersSA

I know the costs associated with printing the mag and think it is a much better idea to have it available electronically only and put club funds to use in a way that will benefit more riders.
An A4 flyer printed double side and folded containing a general speil about the club, calendar and major sponsors would be a much more valuable and cost effective tool for publicising Quadriders SA. _________________ say NO! to ball sports |

I agree, the magazine can be read on the website. It's much more cost effective to do it this way, it's a lot of money wasted on paper...

It's easy to overlook the advertising value of a hard copy.
The hard copy is something tangible that we can take anywhere and give to any interested new members. We can hand out old copies to people you meet at the servo who ask "where do you ride your quads". We can write extra contact details on them.
Our club mag was the first thing i remember being handed, and i know when most people were new to the club they probably got the same.
It displays that we are organised enough to print a mag, it works and works well.
A full page add in the Mag costs $360PA which is about the same as printing costs for 1 issue. So if we only get 12 advertising sponsors for a year... the mag pretty much pays for itself.
If we don't print a mag, our current advertisers may pull out, or want to pay less, so we gain nothing, but do cut of the positive potential of the old hard copy.
It was sad to ATV Action magazine go, and that went because as a business, it was struggling to get advertiser support and pay for itself. They kept it going for as long as they could, and they did not even have flow on benefits like increasing member numbers and more people turning up to events because they always had a copy of the calendar handy.
I say make it go as close as possible to paying for itself, and keep it _________________ Can-Am X Team

Just because it is available as a PDF on the website doesn't mean that people who like a hard copy can't print it off for themselves. Sure it doesn't look as good as a copy from the printers, but it definatley would help save money if we don't get those advertisments.

Yeah look I think thats a fair point, maybe the Camp away, MX & Enduro Coordinators can print some off and have them on hand to pass out at the events during the year. They can always put in a request for payment for ink from their printers if they want too, so that would cover their costs or could even take it down to office works or some other computing place to get 1/2 dozen each coordinator. This would cost way less than having a printing company set it all up and print out 100 or so copies each time a new magazine comes out. Maybe something to look at?

In the original Poll, there should be a box for new potential members that don't read this forum to tick
They would have to be the most important voters on this topic wouldn't they? _________________ Can-Am X Team

Just had a question from a potential sponsor
If mag isnt routinely printed their company effectively is only being advertised online
? perhaps a small run of each addition for sponsors ?? _________________ If you're not having fun, it's not worth doing

I think there will always have to be some form of print for advertising (didn't think about this in my previous post) at events and such. Unless we want to hand out iPads. |

I think the upside for sponsors by turning Dual Roost into an Ezine is that due to the cheaper (free) distribution costs, we can reach a much wider audience than we can afford to via postage, so this should actually be seen as a benefit to sponsors. By actually emailing it out to people we should actually get more views than waiting for people to come to our site.
I envisage an opt-in email subscription which would allow anyone from around the world to subscribe for free, so rather than a 100 issues being distributed in SA, it could reach 200-300+ pretty easily and reach all quad riders around Australia and beyond.
I know I would subscribe to the interstate clubs newsletters if it was emailed to me for free.
We would still have to find a way to get the magazine to those members without email or internet access at home work or school, so we may still need a small hard copy print run for these people, if there is anyone in this category.
I believe that I can also insert hyperlinks within the PDF document with direct links to sponsors websites and email. It should also be possible to embed video clips into it of events or sponsor promos.
I think we do need a basic Club Info Brochure for new members with all the guff new members need and our event calendar.
Nothing would be changed without consulting with the current sponsors and getting their approval and then putting to vote at a club meeting. _________________ Proud Member of QuadridersSA
