Hello Ladies and Gents,

I previously owned a 2009 model Kawasaki Bruteforce 750 which I recently sold. The bike was a weapon and I have nothing bad to say about it apart fron the low ground clearance. The motor was just unbelievable.
I am now looking at my next purchase and was looking at the arctic cat, 700 or 1000.
Does anyone own one of these? or know of any body who does?

To me the Can-am is ok, but i dont believe the suspension works as well as the conventional IRS.
The Polaris I am considering, in the 850 and the Yamaha 700, well that handle bar bend is just ridiculous and the motor sounds like a rough running lawn mower engine. Also, to me, the Griz 700 just doesnt have anything exciting about the motor at all.

So, I am kind of rambling away here, but basically, my decision has come down to the Polaris or Arctic Cat.

What do the Griz riders think of my harsh critics towards the bike?? laughing

Each bike has it's own advantages and disadvantages, but i would have stayed with the brute force and put a lift kit in it , check out the comparison on the hp figures for all the big bores and i bet you wont buy an arctic cat , as they are well down on hp for a big machine ,

The grizzly is certainly down on actual power compared to others , but is has some good points as well , have a look at a suzuki king quad

The can-am seem noisy but have the speed the Polaris have the speed also but not so quick to get there and there seems to be something wrong with the 4X4 system getting magnetized & the front diffs basket braking but fixed if you replace it with a METAL John deere one then there's the arctic cat. ah, The Arctic Cat If i got any it would be the mud pro for the extra ground clearance. We need the ground clearance. But I don't think it's got the power steering we need ??? and no one sells them were I am so I'm in the same boat as I am with the CF Moto can't get the parts or at the very least I will have to pay through the nose in freight costs to get the parts so i must eliminate the Cat, Be prepared to wear ear muffs for the can-am or pull the front diff apart for the polaris oh! and the polaris xp850 and the can-am I can get full import with 3000 bucks of extras and/or nearly. Delivered to my door for hundreds less than buying in Australia (got to keep some one on the dole Ah!) & I left out the Grizzly Wink

I can only comment on the Grizzly and Canam Renegade, I own a Grizz 700 and for me it was the only choice at the time, I have driven 4wd's for 10 years and the one thing I wanted to have was a selectable manual locker... the only other machines available was the Arctic Cat (no dealer nearby) and the CF Moto (didn't know about them then). My Grizz has about 1200 (very hard) km's on it and never faults (even when completely submerged). laughing
Standard suspension on the Grizzly is poor IMO, engine will not win any races, but with a clutch kit, mine gets along as fast as I need.
Longer wheelbase would be ideal (I like climbing hills)

The renegade 800's are unreal, I don't think the noise is a big problem, the engine sounds unreal...you want to flog it just for the noise Wink
main thing with a Canam is skid plates and maybe a snorkle depending on where you ride, other than that it performs very well, front locker could be better tho...(it just has the std visco-loc) Graham (ATV Offroad) only chose the Canam over a Brute 750 due to the deal he got on the Gade.

I think the AC Thundercat or Mudpro 1000 would be a good ride, I have read that the mudpro's are quite harsh ride and less stable than the std due to height and suspension setup when used on trails, but they perform well in the mud (obviously)
I'd like one in my shed one day Cool

What about one of these?

http://en-ca.can-amatv.brp.com/showroom/key-features/Outlander-800R-X-mr.aspx

I hear they will be coming to our shores soon and from the sounds of things they should be a pretty nice piece of gear.

If I was going to upgrade from the Renegade it would be one of these...

As for the Polaris XP 850, they have a front auto locker like the Can Am's but the XP is a lot heavier and it has a smaller fuel tank. Something else to consider when making a decision.

Graham the polaris diff is a diff not like the Can am.

Can am diff is actually quite dangerous when riding steep stuff downwards.

Can am still doesn't have a frame ... Until they fix that ...all the other makes and Models will be superior quad.

The Arctic Cat comparing Apples with Apples still a better built machine.

I haven't had any problems with the diff going down hill, I admit the early model Visco lok isn't great but apparantly the new QE one is a massive improvement. I think it's also possible to put a new QE diff in the older models, if you could afford to swap a diff just for that reason.

The Can Am Spar frames are fine if you protect them with skid plates or chassis braces, if you were racing them that is, I just have skid plates to protect the hollow chassis.

Talking about Polaris, they also claim to have active hill descent, which never works so if you were buying a Polaris for that feature you'd be wasting your money. Can Am's have great engine braking so going down hill sometimes requires throttle. I'd still have my Gade over an AC too, each too there own, I ride with guys that all have utility style quads and there much more practical machines but I find mine is great fun even though it won't carry as much stuff.

Husky, What’s your hatie on Can-am? If you want to be taken seriously you need to comment without bias (or at least state your bias).
This question comes down to what suits the rider. Power to weight ratio is a big factor with performance (An outlander 650 will beat a 850 Polaris in a straight line drag). What kind of riding will the rider be doing? For trail riding a Grizz will suit most riders needs at a good price, it will carry a load and won't blow out your kidneys after a long day. If you like high speed they are way too twitchy. I haven’t ridden an AC but they are heavy.
As for the can-am frame, I'd like to see a comparative test. I personally have straightened 4 frames through the shop now, but they have all been massive impacts. One was a lamppost.
The best advice (can-am bias advice) that I can give is ride what you like before you purchase. (If you like fast hardcore you'll most likely go Can-am). If you like big solid, AC. If you want an all-rounder, maybe Grizz700.
One other point rusty mentioned "I don't believe the suspension works as well as conventional IRS"(on a Can-am) Look into it, Coming off of a brute force a can-am will feel like a Rolls Royce.
