ok im going to start riding again. sold up about 2 years ago and have been left out of the loop ever since. i miss riding too much. will be mainly doing track riding so im going to go with the wider stance models

im tossing up between a 2010 LTR450 and a 2010 YFZ450r

i can get the ltr for $3000 cheaper than the yfz but have to wait a whole week for delivery Sad and it leaves me with change for some goodies hehe.

i dont plan to go crazy with the mods, might do a bit of racing here and there also

what im chasing is a bit of info on both quads, good points and bad points.

i remember the ltr had a problem with the gearbox stuffing up pretty quick, is this still the case with the 2010 models? will spending the extra 3g on the yfz be worth it?

so what do yous reckon?

cheers,
gammie

welcome back james Very Happy
i have heard both bikes are really good, and the gearing issues have been fixed on the newer model suzukis if this helps Very Happy

also they are apparently letting the quads run at cairns mX now, their first meet was just a few months after we moved out of cairns lol Mad

I'd go the YFZ450R. Have had mind about 18 months and love it. Great handling and good power (with aftermarket exhaust, air filter and fuel controller).

Brooksy00 is selling (in the for sale section) a very neat 09 yfz450r with some goodies at a bargain of a price... if i was in the market for a new quad i would be taking a very good look at that one.

Hi. I have a 2008 LTR and never had one problem. No gearbox issues.
I believe the engines are different, the Suzuki a low and midranger, and the Yamaha a top ender. Yamahe guys could comment on this.

i have an older yamaha and its awesome, didnt have to do anything to get heaps of power out of it but i think it is a bit more top end than ltr. i would definately go for the yamaha personally, but 3k can get you a fair few mods for the ltr. .

i think it is price that is going to swing the decision on this one. id like the yammy as i used to have an 04 model but there is not much more on offer for the extra 3 grand. but keep the comments coming. i havnt handed over any money yet Smile

if you go to the website www.atvondemand.com
then click video channels
then featured video channels
then 2010 atv tests
then scroll down and there are 3 videos on the 2010 450cc motocross shootout that gives a good comparison on 5 of the top 450

personelly i have an suzuki ltr450 comes well setup as standard and 3000 grand less gives you some decent mods

I have an 08 Suzuki and apart from 3rd gear its been great. Stock form it gives the fancy set up bikes a run for their money.

if you get a Suzuki, change the 3rd gear to a billet set right away as apparently they still have the issue. $600 up front is cheaper than a whole heap of damage later when they let go.

In stock form you will go a long way on an LTR before needing other go faster bits. Lid off the air box, cherry bomb and remove the butt from the exhaust and you're set
