NPWS Press Release 9 September 2010:

‘Revised re-opening for Stockton Beach Access’

The re-opening of the Stockton Beach access at Lavis Lane and the Recreational Vehicle Area in the Worimi Conservation Lands near Williamtown, has been re-scheduled to Friday 24 October, to allow for the completion of the major upgrade to the popular access track.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Hunter Coast Area Manager Michael Murphy said that upgrade work, partially funded through the sale of beach vehicle permits, includes the widening and raising of the height of the track to provide a two-way access road, to provide visitors with a more reliable and safer access onto the beach.

Mr. Murphy said that “Due to the nature of the work including the need to move high volumes of sand for the construction of the new track, the work has taken slightly longer than anticipated, but the track will still be open in time for the October school holidays.

“The majority of the construction work for the upgraded track has been completed, including the widening and re-alignment of the track, and preparation of the track base.

“However, essential work including the tar sealing of a small section of the track, and the laying of gravel, needs to be completed before the track is safe for use.

“The priority for the work has been to complete the construction of the track and re-open it for public use before the school holidays.

“Once the track is re-opened, finishing touches including fencing, mulching and tree planting, will be completed.

Mr. Murphy said “The Worimi Conservation Lands Board of Management apologises for inconvenience the temporary closure may cause some recreational vehicle users.”

“The works have been scheduled outside of school holidays to minimise disruption to visitors, and the new access will be significantly better for all users.

People can still access Stockton Beach via the Anna Bay 4WD entry, off Gan Gan Road.

Media release: 9 September 2010
The re-opening of Stockton Beach access at Lavis Lane and the Recreational Vehicle Area in the Worimi Conservation Lands near Williamtown, has been re-scheduled from the 19th September to Friday 24th September, due to unavoidable construction delays.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Hunter Coast Area Manager Michael Murphy said the need to move very high volumes of sand has meant the work has taken slightly longer than anticipated.

"The track will still be open in time for the October school holidays when the widened and raising two-way access road will provide visitors with a more reliable and safer access onto the beach", Mr Murphy said.

"The Worimi Conservation Lands Board of Management apologises for inconvenience the temporary closure may cause some recreational vehicle users", Mr Murphy said.

In the meantime people can still access Stockton Beach via the Anna Bay 4WD entry, off Gan Gan Road.
