 |
|
Hello I have purchased a 2nd hand 4WD ATV for the purpose of towing a lightweight Zodiac inflatable boat onto beach for launching.
We have seen another person doing the same with great success and I recall they said they put 'water in the tyres' to increase weight of the ATV and/or to maximise surface area onto the sand to maximise traction.
Does this make sense and can anyone suggest how the hell I get water in the typres?
I would have though the obvious strategy would be to reduce tyre pressure.
Obviously we will be taking things very slowly (5kph absolute max on the sand) and it is only a 50 metre trip.
Cheers

Never heard of that one before.
With a 4wd quad you should be good on 4-5 PSI in the sand. _________________ If it's not upside down, you're not trying hard enough!

| we use the same method in our front end loaders at the sand quarry i work at they run water in the rear tyres to act as a counterweight and give better traction when bucket is fully loaded, weighing the front of machine down. not sure about quads tho, same principle i spose |

I've seen the same for machinery but I don't think you'll need to for a quad... just low pressure will be fine as long as you are not outside to towing capacity of the quad.... _________________

I think it is better to add some weight compared in adding water w/c surely be difficult on removing on the future. _________________ "Invest with atv parts that are reliable and inexpensive." |
