Hi guys,
My young bloke has a Polaris Sportsman 90 and he has started having a problem with it when he accelerates.
It starts first kick and idles beautifully, its just when he starts to wind on power the thing dies, like it is running out of fuel. If I leave it running for a while it will rev higher before dying, but if I try succesively it wont last as long. I have dissasembled and cleaned out the carby, (as best I could) jets and all, and have changed the fuel filter and blown out the lines. I have dissasembled and blown out the fuel tap and breathers. Where else should I be looking?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Confused Jon

Yep,
I put a brand new K&N style filter mounted snorkel stlye on the guard and did away with the old box. It ducts srtaight onto the carb.
The problem started before I replaced the plug and filter which is why I did them first, then a carby clean.

At what throttle position dose it start to do this...

What kind of carby is on it.....

dose it have a anti throttle stick safety feture in the top of the throttle body on the bars...

Pull the choke out dose it run or make it worse...

Thanks shaun
throttle position about halfway,
not sure of the carby model, I will check when I get home from work,
It has no anti-stick I believe and is auto-choke.
There is a black "tube" sitting vertically next to the slide housing with 2 wires going into it and a needle and plug arrangement on the bottom. This appears to be some sort of electro-magnet setup but I am unsure what it does. I pulled it out and cleaned it to no avail.
Thanks,
Jon

I had exactly the same problem with my old Predator 90, and it turned out to be a faulty spark plug lead. Try giving that a go.

Thanks to all for all your help guys.
Mick@47 hit it on the head.
The endcap on the plug lead broke down and went open cicuit over a certain rev range or when hot.
Once again thanks and see you in the dunes. (Stockton of course)

Spoke too soon.
Went in to Graham Boyds at Broadmeadow to pick it up after being told it was done and the thing is exactly as I left it. They haven't fixed a thing. Worst part is they slugged me $185:00 for the repair prior to getting the bike out. $80:00 per hour they charge. And it is the same as when I left it.
Ive left it with them and told them to get it right this time and I want $185:00 credit when it finally is running.
Boy I'm pissed.
