Hi

Being new to the ATV world...what sorts of tyre pressures are best to be used? Do they vary in different types of riding/terrain Dunes...MX...recreational ?

Cheers
Matt

Regarding tyre pressures. I'll tell you what I know about your farm or touring style quad bike. These are like a Can-am Outlander or Yamaha Grizzly.
For touring and trail-riding with standard balloon type tyres, 5 psi is it. Drop to 4 and a 1/2 for lots of sand. Any more pressure and their ability to grip goes down dramatically. Gravel roads feel like marbles underneath. Ride comfort is also affected.
General safe constant speed limit is regarded as 65km/h. Faster bursts are OK, just don't maintain higher speeds because the temperature build up can easily damage the expensive things in ways that can't be seen. Blow-outs are one result. Pain wsould be another.
Balloon type tyres are for flotation and low speed traction. Putting the bike into slides with these tyres is generally gunna result in a "incident".
Incident results vary from bad to worse.
For racing and MX, the tyres are a different design, as the tyres requirements are totally different to "farm/touring style" quads. Those quads that are made to do this is things like outlaw:s and banshee's. They are made to be slid and jumped and raced.
The pressures of those I don't know. Hope it helps....

In the bush with rocks /sticks / and lots of other uglies we run 10 psi in the front and 5 psi in the back to best stop getting flats. Usually back the shocks of a bit to compensate for the harder tyres.thanks scotty.
