gday. myself & a fellow rider took an arfternoon drive up to a mates property around the Hayfield/Maffra area to have a look at where the fires had burned. 1 of two mates places was untouched by about 2km but the areas around his place where we rides were totally burnt out. We had 2 orion 125cc pocket dirt bikes with us so we went for a cruise & we had trouble finding the tracks we normally ride on & knew so well.
The other mates place which is at the base of the mountains was thrashed, 150acres of riding tracks & a large MX track were lost, the mx track will be easily fixed but with no trees left on the property & all fences destroyed its now open & exposed which will be an invite for people to get in & ride where they shouldnt. There weekend shacks was saved but only by a matter of metres. Those tracks were also hard to make out but managed to go around them a couple of times. After that we decided to go into the hills to see how things looked there, shockin..! we were riding for all of 10min & same deal, couldnt make out any tracks & even at 1 point on the way back we got lost & thats with a GPS tracker, it was very difficult to find our bearings without any decent reference points but got back of track after a few minutes so by the looks of things it will be a few months b4 i get out to my regular riding areas again. Im glad we didnt take quads yesterday because even on those pocket bike the dust & ash was incredible so on atv's it would of been blinding. i havnt been out for over 6 months now because of a broken wrist back in september 7 & was keen to get out while on holidays but the group i normally go out with have all decided not to go until it rains (yeah i know, whats rain?). So now im thinking that all riders, quads, 2 wheelers, 4x4 drivers should all be getting outside & doing a rain dance because well at least in victoria its looking pretty sad at the moment.....cheers 2 all & i hope u r lucky enough to find some of the sloppy stuff
