Ok i'm looking to get a 450 race bike, i have a yfz at the moment but em selling that due to i want to up date..
out of all the 450's what is the most reliable? all i would want to do to it is, exhaust, intake, fuel delivery.
i just want a bike that will keep going,i will of course be servicing it all the time, like i know the sport of motor cross is a extremly high matenance sport, so i thought i would start off with a reliable bike.
so please write up what you think about reliabitly of the modern 450's, which one is the best buy and all that.. thanks _________________ the stuf on the 04 yfz... lonestar axle(thanks jono), protaper bars ,2+stem, Pro armour, jetted ,custom airbox (thanks to huskygoat),unifilter,Gibson LT a arms, Fox float x evol, 08 swingarm (thanks Quad), stroked( thanks quad squad) |

I think there pretty much all reliable. If you are only going to do bolt ons , with no engine mods i cant really think of a quad thats going to let you down. Maybe you should look at How much the Quad is going to cost you to service. Ktm would have to be the most expensive to service, a top end rebuild will set you back a lot more than a Yammy, Honda, Kawi. These 4 strokes are all pretty expensive to maintain. Dont just look at oil and cleaning the filter, they will need a replaced piston, timing chain, possible valves etc.
Just get one that you feel the most comfortable on what you exactly plan on doing with it, MX, trailriding.
Good Luck

my opinion would be to get a 08 polaris outlaw 450 MXR
they are great bikes, comfy ride, really reliable and come standard with Fox Podium Shox and Maxxis RZR MX tyres
the 08 models are selling for $8,995 australian $ at the moment (brand new)

That is true about most quads ... except the Cobras' ... apparently if your kid rides a Cobra it is all the quad and none of the rider!! :p _________________ Mikey got 3rd in the Nationals!!

Thats cos racing a cobra against a CVT bike is like running a YZ80 against a Peewee 80
80% bike 20% rider beating a cobra on a CVT is 80% rider 20% bike |

that sounds about right, although i'd say it's about 75% bike 25% rider, just not fair having them race against cvt quads.
I'd choose an lt-r for reliability, we haven't blown a motor yet and once they've got the billet gears they're fairly bulletproof |

Most of the new 450 bikes are fairly reliable. Just depends as to how much money you want to throw at them to get them into race trim.
Why hasn't Lenny jumped on this post yet? _________________ If it's not upside down, you're not trying hard enough!

Thanks for the vote of confidence ...
What is not fair about racing a 70cc Cobra against a 90cc CVT? Anyone, any track, any time - you wanna swap bikes and have a race? Insert excuse here ............................................................! _________________ Mikey got 3rd in the Nationals!!
