Hey every one

between exams, and assignments and looking for owork I almost forgot about my bike..

until i pulled it out on the weekend for the first time in about 10 weeks.

My God.

My poor bike... my poor poor bike!!

It's an 01 model.
It's stock
and it is... well, what was once a mean machine is now something similar to homer simpson. its out of shape.

-Some nice person, aka probably my brother has broken one of my lights
-It's backfiring.. happened a fair bit this weekend and i've never heard it before from my bike
-The kickstarter is going to kill me. Seriously. If not for the annoying rattle its going to be because i'm not able to use the brakes
-front brake pads need replacement
-front sprocket guard is now broken
-rear sprocket guard has been bent, but only slightly
-rear shock regas or replacement

I'm not to worried about the rear guard, i straightened it out.

I do want to know, has anyone come up with, bought, or made a stronger front sprocket guard? Details please.

I have tried everything from hair scrunchies to cable ties to wire to stop this kickstarter from rattling, so i guess I should just buy a new one. I crown King the man who makes a new "rattle free" design of the kick starter

Lights! this is important for me. Where i ride, even during the day, is abnormally dark, plus my vision isn't that good in dark places. Believe me, if i could, i'd be hooking up some lightforce strikers to it but i don't know if it has been done. Does anyone know where (besides rickystator) i can get an upgrade for the light kit? These standard lights are hopeless

Backfiring. It only does it when it's cold. How come? I plan on going big bore and DMC aliens as soon as I can afford it. I would really love to hear from anyone who has done this and what to watch out for. Also has any one invested in one of those inline coolers? any change in running temps?

Brake pads will be replaced soon.

I know i've said alot but I would love to hear from you. At one stage I was considering investing my $$ in a 700 raptor. Well.... after watching someone work for FOUR DAYS on valve adjustment alone, there is no way in the world i am going to do that. They just seem so unreliable and delicate.

I was so convinced that I was going to part with my banshee for a new machine with more power, reverse, and better suspension. after seeing what I saw and seeing what happens when maintenance on a raptor is done by a DIY... no way... NO WAY! Considering i'll be doing my own maintenance as well, i feel I will be left in that same position too.

I guess what people are saying is right. Banshee's are the best. Of course, if someone can prove me wrong... then please tell me why!

Thanks guys

hey bud, thats a few questions!!! as for the dmcs, they are awesome. i have dmc aliens, cool head, forged pistons 20thou over, and a few other things and it flys. big bore, i wouldnt. inline cooler, go for a cool head instead. front sproket guard and stator cover, is that whaty you mean?? if so they are on ebay, they are billet and cost around $450!! the missfire?? dont know. someone else will but lol. mine did that but only when it was hot and that was the coil. there are some hid lights you can get from ebay or scott from atvs unlimited, they are awesome and use less power than the standard ones!! the kick starter, they all do it, i think you can get a rebuild kit for them on ebay lol. mine flings out and when you stack it, it holds on to you and drags you along!! haha. hope that helps!!

Oh joy..yet another broad based statement about the short comings of a particular model, based on a single observation, designed to cause a rush of derogatory remarks. Let me have a go.......one of the guys we ride with every Sunday has a Banshee. The thing regularly overheats riding through the deep sand of the local river beds especially during the summer months when our temperatures can reach 50. My Raptor and the other four stroke quads ridden by the rest of our group, don't have this problem. Applying your popular logic of my model of quad is the best and all others suck, I can categorically state without fear of reprisal that Banshees are unreliable, overheat when ridden on sand, and cannot go the distance cross country against a derelict 220CC Yamaha Timberwolf.

If everyone liked and rode the same thing, what a boring place the world would be. Each to there own.

I agree Clarkie, I get on the Banshee whenever a ride is offered just to give my sphincter a scare. She is a whole different beast to the big girl but I still prefer the Raptor. Everyone likes something different and there is nothing wrong with open debate on the pros and cons of our rides. However there just seems to be a lot of "versus" type threads popping up lately which always end up the same way. Labelling the Raptor as unreliable and delicate because a mate has taken four hours to do a DIY valve adjustment and then issuing a challenge to prove why Banshees aren't the best, makes this thread yet another one.

the stock banshee stator is about 80 watts AC. so hid's are not an option unless you do a DC stator conversion, or float the earth.
i have just got my bike back from Betta Bikes south of adelaide.
he has done a full replacment stator from a suzuki road bike into my banshee. it now happily runs 100 watts of lights, a thermo fan, and charges a battery so i can run the lights with the engine off.

no the hids are 15 or so watts each, so the original stator is more than capable, also, i run one of my standard lights with one 100watt h1 globe and it works a treat Smile

get a stiffer spring from the local hardware store, pull your kicker apart, bung it in with plently of grease, put a thin o-ring on the bottom and reassemble.

clean the carbys and put in a new set of plugs. let it warm up before you ride it

MadDog_Banshee wrote:

dont go big bore, they take away too much area out of your transfer ports, go stroker and porting

rubbish dont bother, if you need the extra cooling get a noss head and a A/M radiator.

don't base you decisions on one inexperienced persons ordeal. the 700 is a great bike, but unlike the banshee it is modern. four days on a valve adjustment is ridiculous, and are just as reliable, probably better then a banshee if they are maintained correctly. saying that, my mate had one that he bought 2 years ago, all he did was change the oil, oil filter and clean the air filter, that bike used to get a hiding, i was surprised it was still running.
