Was a dissapointing turnout for the Australasian Safari which kicked off from Russell square in Northbridge (Perth) this afternoon.
All competitors were present with their vehicles for a meet and greet with the public, but not a lot of people turned up. I must admit if I wasn't told about it while visiting Legend Quad on Friday I wouldn't have known anything about it! Very poorly advertised! And it was sponsored by Tourism WA!!

Anyway, it was great to get up close and personal with the cars ,bikes and quads and all the drivers/riders. Everyone was happy to talk about the race, their vehicle, preperation etc; I had a quick chat with Paul Smith. Everything you guys say about him isn't true! He's a nice fella! _________________ Cheers,

Yes he is - just don't try to steal his beer while he talking to his wife on the mobile at one of the oz safari overnight stops - he does not like to share that much!

Really? Funny that. The same thing was done in Kalgoorlie last year.
Before the race start, I went in for a hair cut. The hairdresser says to me "What brings you to town?" I said "the Australian Safari" she said "whats that?" I suppose that was just a female working in the Kalgoorlie main street...
During the start thing last year - I crossed the street after about an hour and wandered into the newsagency to buy some highlighters and I found some "smurf" stickers for my bike decor.... (one still graces my map roller) The guy at the counter asked me, what was going on outside the shop in the main street. When I said the start of the Australian Safari - he gave me a blank look - I said the race - he nodded and said he wondered what was going on...
The guy in bunnings was the same and on goes the list....

I was asked by several people to go again... I will consider it when the Event Director does http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Pull%20your%20head%20out%20of%20your%20ass failing that then when WA tourism finds a replacement. Only a small problem which would remove all issues so everything would be all good. My OP if you don't like it then contact me for the real story and make up your own mind.
Oh and I have been told the TV show was aired at least 14 times in south africa and about twice here.
Nice KTM

May have had a few more people there but was a busy weekend with the King of the Cross and A few over east with the Tri State series so most of the fan/specatator base would be at Southern Cross specialy with the great weather. Good luck to all in the safari stay safe Cheers Mick |
