Mine came with the 250cc Zongshen motor not the Loncin. Gravedigger is right. I couldn't afford a secondhand jap bike and I only had my little 110 that the way I was riding it wasn't gunna last long. So I bought a chinese one instead of not having a bike for a few years and buying a jap i just bought a cheap chinese bike to ride while i start saving up again. Very Happy

The main thing we welded was the swingarm. In one of them pics you can see how flimsy it is but on the new ones you are looking at it has been beefed up a heap so you shouldn't have to do anything to that. The only other things that we did where fix one of the mounts under the front guards that holds them on. Only one of them broke so I just think it was a one off thing. The other thing was the muffler mount and they look like they have fixed that too. The only thing that you will need pics of is the things we have done to the seat because the little lugs that go down and stop the seat sliding around broke so we added some things onto the latch to stop it sliding from side to side. We still have to put something on it to stop it sliding backwards though. At the moment it is held on with tape. Razz There isn't really any actuall dodgy welds it will just be a case of fixing things when they come up. You probably have different little problems though because they have changed the frame abit. Smile

I had had it a month. All those things happened to it at the TP300 enduro when we were doing the instructional course and I was going pretty hard into corners that why the little plastic things snapped off the seat from sliding across and putting preasure on them. And that was when the swingarm cracked because it was flexing to much when I was sliding around corners. Now we have reinforced the middle and the sides and it doesn't hardly flex at all and I don't ave any trouble with it. And I have been jumping it from the first day I had it. It is still good. Hi spud94, did you see the new atomik 350cc on ebay? From what I can gather it was a polaris design ! Type in 350cc quad; it looks pretty good!

If I am goin flat out I stop about every hour/ hour and a half. I don't know if it needs it but I stop caus my mate who rides an old farm bike stops to let his bike cool down to. I only stop for 10/ 15 minutes just to give the motor a bit of a rest. The only other things would to make sure your airbox is sealed good. Mine let in a bit of dust so it is taped up tight now. We are also making a cover to go over the hole like an Outwear Cover thing so we don't have to change the inside one as often. I think that is about it really. The 350's do look ok but they go for about $1000 to $1500 more too.

I've got the Atomik 300 polaris style (Reaktor) and I've had a good look at the 350 too (Ballistik in Wangara have one).

The 300 has pitman type steering, which if you like it (and I do) is excellent.
It takes some of the bump out of the steering.
The steering geometry is almost dead on without tweaking (which I've had to do on every other chinese quad I've worked on).
The engine is a GN250 or DR350 copy, seriously, looks exactly the same, the exploded diagram's are the same, and I've heard from a bloke who works on them that the internal parts are the same (he replaced the clutch with the suzuki part with no problem). The airbox and setup are the same as the polaris predator and pretty much everything else also looks the same as the predator. The reverse gear on the box is NOT great, and geared really high. That CAN lead to problems (and it did for me) but otherwise it seems to be a good strong motor and can handle being revved pretty hard (a lot of my riding is sand and dunes - gotta love WA Smile ). The shockies as standard work very well too. I'm a big bloke and they handle me fine even getting some air (I'm still breaking in the new engine so I haven't gotten too much air with it yet). All in all, bang for buck, its a great value quad and I'm very happy.

The 350, they lost the pitman steering, and the front geometry is pretty naff requiring lots of blocking out washers and a little machining (apparently) before it will go where you point it. The 350 engines (so I'm told) originally had some problems, where a whole batch was sent (to WA) with a mistake in the gearbox - they were a loss maker for the importer which is why its taken a while for them to get on the market enforce (this is what I've been told by dealers). The 350 frame is slightly longer. Its wider in the front end than the 300. The plastics are the same. The suspension is now from Fastace which is apparently a growing premium brand in China for good quality suspension. The reputation is good but I didn't get to ride it to see for sure what that extra 50cc does for performance. The engine is now from Zongchen which has a good rep as the best of the chinese branded motors. It comes with nerf bars and bark busters as standard. All in all, a good looking quad, but BIG, wide, and seems to need a bit of work to get it handling right.

For me, its not a big enough upgrade yet. If the frame etc holds up on my current 300 I'll look to upgrading the engine (wonder if the DR350 head and pistons will fit it) because I really do like the feel of the quad's handling. I almost went to a utility quad this time around but this atomik 300 came up at a good priced so I had to try it out (maybe next time I'll try a 4x4 utility quad - at least 400cc I reckon).

Ok, warranty stuff. They shipped my 300 with some missing and broken parts. Its taken a LOT of phaffing and chasing to get them replaced but they have done the right thing and eventually everything has been sorted. Whilst they haven't been great at communicating they have been good at replacing bits under warranty. My first time out giving it a serious ride trying to reverse out of some rough stuff there was a crunch and then no drive. It would snick into place but not engage the gears. Then that stopped too. Essentially - tow it back to camp and thats the end of my riding that weekend. Now I'm in WA and they're over east. I took the engine out, sent it back to them (they paid for shipping) and they sent me back a NEW ENGINE!!! (apparently the gearbox on my first one was a ruined mess). Now thats pretty good warranty service and just about a worst case scenario situation. So, I'd be happy to purchase from them again.

I hope that helps someone who's been looking at those quads. If you get the chance to have a look at one of those 300's I reckon you'll be impressed with it. Do the usual bold tightening and you'll be right. Its waaaaaay better build quality than the 200's or 250's out there.

There will always be plenty of negative ideas and thoughts whenever you
talk about these so called "Chinese Crap". However what we all need to remember is that not all can afford even a secondhand jap item so therefore why not help these people to choose the best product within
there reach financially.
At the end of the day it's all about growing the numbers of people involved
in our great sport and if that means people starting on cheaper machines
then so be it. Lets just help to choose between what's good and not so good by all getting our heads together, maybe there could be some kind of rating scale put up on the forum for the most popular 5-10 bikes in each
capacity catagory. Not sure what others reckon but maybe can come up with lists of companies that are good to deal with, with good products and for safety reasons steer people away from the truly dangerous/dodgy
gear/operators out there.
Just my two cents worth, pesonally I think we need to grow our sport by
promoting family involvement and possibly these chinese machines will enable more families to test it out and then progress into better machines
as they become "addicted" like the rest of us.

Cheers Dean.

Absolutly spot on digger. And lets face it Feralkid has shown us all exactly how its got to be done, his review of these quads has be fantastic, and has already given any buyer out there a list things to do and what look out for, he certainly hasnt said its great, buy it blah blah, but told us of his problems, eg the frame needed welding on his, and the comparioson between his model and the current updated version is great and for such a young kid he needs to be congratulated for being unbiased about the quad. No doubt he'd love a jap quad one day but what a great basing this has been (still) for him. So Spud go and buy the thing, enjoy it, take some or all of the advice given here, and enjoy it, and get onto feralkid via hereand get even more detailed info about the quad. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

In the same frame of mind, if anyone reads a Mens gadgit magazine called Gaere out of the UK (look out for it if you have not seen it before it'll be with the PC mags and you'll wana buy everything.) they have a section at the back monthly of what the top ten in each market segment is and because the market changes so quickly in consumer electronics they update each month.

I'd love to see this added to ATV action. And lets not have the bikes ridden by racer writers used to $15+ race bikes per week, lets get it ridden by johnny on the spot whose looking at putting his money down.

Every 2 months people can register in which bracket they want to buy and they can go out and test ride bikes in their respective categories. Maybe 2 months is too short but maybe 6 months?

Oh and just forgot to mention if you're financially in the next bracket of say up to $5k these are a yamaha knock off, but I have no review to give you but if you hunt one donw.....

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330255807024&_trksid=p3907.m32&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching

Given the increased circulation lets give em a $ gift voucher to spend at a store who'se sponsoring the frikin mag.

Great review feral, lot of maturity in that.

Gavin
