"Quad bike safety discussion paper released
On Friday 30 August 2012 the Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, the Hon Bill Shorten MP released a discussion paper on design and engineering controls to improve quad bike safety.
The discussion paper is calling for submissions on engineering options to:
• change the current design of quad bikes to improve safety
• improve protection for the rider in the event of a roll over
• restrict the capacity for children to start and/or operate quad bikes, and
• restrict the capacity for passengers to be carried on quad bikes.
Interested people are encouraged to review and provide comment on the discussion paper by 28 September 2012.
To review the discussion paper and have your say on how quad bike safety can be improved visit www.safeworkaustralia.gov.au/sites/SWA/QuadWatch/comment

See the media release issued by the Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations.
The quad bike discussion paper and public comment period is an initiative of the Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, the Hon Bill Shorten MP. Safe Work Australia is assisting the Minister in the quad bike safety review."

A month to make submissions.
Submissions called for engineering of 4 points.

So, put your submission through your Federal MP so they don't get "lost".

This is # 7 of recommendations by Monash University re this subject:
"In the meantime, regulatory bodies should consider the use of the Quad Bar CPD (or an equivalent device) for riders who use Quad bikes at low speeds in the workplace or for recreational use. This device appears to provide potential to reduce injuries and fatalities, particularly those arising from low speed lateral roll and back flip events."

Oh yeah and the best guess breakdown of what was happenning at the time:

So don't believe any fairy tales about this not being applied to recreational use. Us tax payers will be footing the bill for further testing, just to make testing impartial by the selected experts.

Well, I've heard some rumours that things are not going B.S.s way, which would explain his old union pals sticking their noses in, and that he won't get the support to change the laws under his jurisdiction, which would explain why he's trying to use consumer laws to force a standard.
Now the Victorian farmers have come up with a sensible suggestion, leave it as a matter of choice OR the Feds can pick up the coin.

...In short, Bill Shorten came up very short on his claims and threats.
Thanks to those who made the effort.
