Well it was certainly interesting. IMO the track could have been a lot better...in design and how well it handled the event. I think the fact it was cancelled after 2 races due to dust shows how little thought and effort went into it.
To come from Hook and Sonya's place, where the conditions were perfect and an enormous effort was put in by them and their helpers, to go to the Beaudesert track you can tell who made the effort and who didn't.
Some of the pics will show the dust.
Results:
Race 1:
1st : Luke Beechey
2nd: Craig Blackburn
3rd: Jy Stokes
4th: Barry Gilbert
Race 2: (in blinding dust)
1st: Luke Beechey
2nd: Jy Stokes
3rd: Ryan Noyes
4th Craig Blackburn
Pics up soon |

Good Results then. Looks like you might be up in podium position then for the series craig? What happened to barry? Still dont think i am going to be able to make Hooks last round. Probably wont matter anyway, dont think i will be able to salvage a podium finish for the event this year having missed beaudester.
congrats to all who raced yesterday!
Thats unfortunate about the track. good thing you go back to hooks for next round then! |

Barry had massive arm cramp in the 1st race...not sure if it was the same in the 2nd race.

Results and lap times etc are up on http://www.orion-timing.com/
Below is what was just emailed out from MQ for those that didn't receive it:
Good Afternoon,
I have received several complaints about the Thunder X round at Beaudesert and I apologise for the dust problems which arose at the event. However I would like to explain a few of the circumstances leading up to the event.
Motorcycling Queensland has been offered a lease on that property to investigate its suitability as a new motorcycling facility for South East Queensland and we needed to run an event to assess site issues.
MQ asked the clubs in the area if they would be interested in running an event on the site and they declined.
To ensure that we get a chance to use the site, and also because there were only three clubs in Queensland who had volunteered to promote a round of the Thunder X series, MQ decided to go ahead with a round of the Thunder X.
MQ is an administrative organisation, not a club, and not usually a promoter of events. I do not have members that I can call upon to prepare these events. The work was almost entirely done by the MQ staff on top of their normal duties, a couple of the MQ Executive members and all other work was done by paid contractors. However, some individual members of local clubs did give us some much appreciated assistance.
Track planning began about a month in advance, including having a bobcat on-site for two days and a water truck on the track for the three days leading up to the event as well as the day of the event.
Because the site had not been used by bikes before we did not know how the soil would react. On the day we found that the water which had been dumped on the track had sunk through to a layer about 100mm below the surface but had not remained in the surface layer. This is what caused the dust problems.
The track had been marked and slashed beforehand but the bunting went up on the day before in order to cause minimal problems for the water truck. As a virgin grass track I elected not to rip the surface. In hindsight I now know that this is essential as is getting some organic matter into the surface layer to hold moisture.
I hope that we can continue to run events at this site. I apologise for the problems which occurred at the Thunder X and I am also sorry that there was no opportunity to make these points to the riders on Sunday.
Kind Regards,
Lindsay Granger

We went to check out the possible new track on Sunday at B/desert also.
I think it was great too apart from the dust. However, I think we should be very gratefull someone is prepared to have a go at providing a new track to replace the other 3 or so that will be closed.I don't think Lindsay Granger has too much to apologise for. Yeah ,it may have been cut short but they had to start somewhere and get some noise readings etc.
