The extra width i gained in wheel base by putting different rims on , made a huge difference , the weight of the wheel and tyres also was noticed campared to oem wheels and tyres., but all in all worth it , next time i willl try different tyres, maybe the growlers

I have a KLF300 which I picked up for $800 about 8 months ago, the engine didn't start, it was rusted like crazy (still is but not as bad), brakes were seized (still no back brake but it doesnt go fast enough anyway), no headlights and just looked like a piece of crap... well to be honest still does but not as bad.

I bought new headlights, re-wired electrics, bought a new carb, got given a 2nd hand CDI from Chris', pulled the front brakes completely apart and rebuilt them, sanded the bad bits of rust and treated the metal. At the moment I am currently TRYING to remove the starter cup so I can put a new stator in.

I pretty much just use it with my mate who owns a king quad 4x4 for a bit of muddin and tows the trailer when we go camping, nothing serious just a lot of fun. I am also half way through building an audio tube because nothing beats listening to some music while riding Very Happy

Love it mate!

Reduce Re-use Recycle!! Could use some tyres though but like you said not doing the pace to be dangerous.

Haha yeah thats a good way to describe it. I would definitely like to upgrade in a few years time and get into the 4x4 quads properly.

Oh and here is my partners quad too... there isn't a 'cheap poor unsafe atv' section so I'll post it here. Does 0-20 km in about 15 seconds and is complete with an antique horn Very Happy

^ Yeah my clutch is starting to go, only plays up n 5th gear though and when the engine gets really hot. Apparently they are notorious for clutch problems, not a problem though, I got a new clutch kit from the US for only $15.

I'm still trying to do the stator though, I just can get the starter cup off! I've been trying and trying and trying.

No helpfull vids on the internet for the starter? maybe some little oddity or helpful tool that you dont know about?

Was it much hassle to rebuild the callipers? My parents front right is acting up and I'd love to get in and have a crack at it.

Where'd you get the cluitch kit? was delivery a hassle?

Their biggest problem is that I went into a dealer with the frame number and it didnt show up in the system so I cant be sure what year and parts are needed...Awesome

From 88 through to 2004 all parts are the same, they didn't change them at all.

Frame number means nothing to Kawasaki, so here is what you have to do:

-Go to kawasaki.com
-Roll the mouse over 'owner info' on the left hand side and click 'parts diagram',
-Select the make off the quad (Bayou 300 4x4) and a list of all the year models will be listed
-Click anyone, doesnt matter its all the same
-Click parts diagram
-Find the part your looking for and there's a number.

Even though its an American site Kawasaki Australia imports all the parts from Kawasaki America. Remember though Kawasaki Australia is EXPENSIVE!! Try ebay first. It was $600 for a new stator or $140 on ebay. Just one exhaust gasket cost me $50 from Kawi. Aust. Ebay US has heaps of things for these bikes!

I took the calipers off the bike, let them soak in penetren for a week, greased them, and sanded a few areas back where the cylinders seem to be getting caught. I completely replaced the lines thanks to a donation by one of my friends, hehe. In your case though, because it still gets used just grease the calipers or spray it with a bit of silicon spray, just don't get it on the pads. The lines could also be getting clogged, remember to regularly bleed brakes, not hard at all and should only take 5 minutes. All I have to do to the rear brakes is get the shoes relined or just new shoes.

Clutch kit was on ebay, didn't pay postage my mate was in the area and just bought it back home. With the stator I purchased from there it only cost me $20 postage. Now is the best time to buy from the US, but beware of USPS, they charge a lot for international delivery.

As for the stater cup, its a matter of removing the bolt that holds it. It's attached to crank shaft and is really stuck!

Hey thanks for that info...I'll be sure to give it a look.

I new kawa Australia was exspensive from a few parts I priced (wiring loom and exhaust) so I'll give ebay a try.

G'day All,

Meet big yella.
As you can see it is King Quad 700 with my own bar on the front.
The bar started life as a trampoline frame scrounged from the tip and used solely because it had bends in the right place and I didn't have a bender. As for my welding, what I lack in skill I make up for with enthusiasm eek

She now has a power commander, K&N filter and opened exhaust. After tuning on local dyno now has much more snap straight off idle.

p.s. this is my first attempt at piccies

Cheers
Scotty

Hi peoples,

You will all notice my profile name has changed, this is due to several reasons, number one is that , i am known as Barney to most of my friends and family, so i thought i ought to change it , also it seems to be a little of a contradiction as i have not got my Grizz any more,

I have sold my beloved Grizzly and much to a lot of disbelief from some very close friends and even myself i have purchased a new machine, it will be a litle while before i even get to ride it, but i will keep you all in suspense as i will release some pics when all is done.

I also hope maybe Yamaha will look to upgrade the Grizzly with a little more power in new models to come.

Also i will explain some of the things i had to endure be it good and bad in making a very hard decision as to which brand i ended up with and to the fantastic service i received from the seller , and the not so fantastic from others

I am guessing a Polaris.

They have some really good deals at the moment.

We could almost run a poll on this one guys trying to guess which manufacturer.

I too love my Grizzly. But like every good quad out there it has its short comings. I too would like to see some more power from the Grizz.

Mate all the best. I am sure you have done your research into the next machine that you are getting. Glad to hear that you have also received some good customer service. For me this is the deal or no deal. I really value GREAT customer service.
