Gday everyone. I have a question for all of u, beginner & pro riders. If i dont go on a club (atv)trail ride i normally go with mates & im usually the only quad there & i get this question alot "why did you buy a sports ATV & not a trail bike?", i normally say i like the concept & feel of drifting like a rally car & ive ridden 2 wheelers before & they dont do it 4 me but in most cases an atv drifts when it corners & thats why i ride one. So im now asking all of you...Why did you choose a quad over a 2wheeler? _________________ 04 TRX 450r

Got sick of laying bikes down in the corners. lol. And 2 concusions plus squashed cartalidge in my spinal cord which took 6 months of going to a physio twice a week just to get me back to being able to walk properly and nine months of the bike sort of made me think about staying on bikes. So I started riding Dads quad and now ive got my own.
And the feeling you get when you are airing out a quad over a nice jump is almost unbeatable, the only thing that beats it is the look on the faces of the bike riders who have never really seen a quad in action before. _________________ Mic

i switched over to quad racing a because the 2 wheeler racing got a bit serious for my liking, 40 guys going wide open into the first corner gets to you after a while.
Not to mention that its twice as fun and as Mick said there is nothing like airing a quad out in front of the 2 wheeler guys and watching there jaws drop to the ground, or going around the corners faster than they can. The whole quad scene is so much more friendlier and laid back, you can talk to anyone without any pretences. |

my theory is that if riding a two wheeler is fun then logically having twice the amount of wheels has to be twice as much fun coz it has to go that way as riding unicycles suck's
but another way of looking at it is quads are the most universal machine out there what two wheeler rider can ride as many diciplines as us just by changing wheels and you dont even have to do that eg. motocross, dirt track, motard, speedway, dunes, trails, hill climbs, drag racing, freestyle, jumps, drifting, and im sure there is more.
plus you can ride relatively quick no matter what level rider you are where as you need to be a good rider to ride a two wheeler quick |

I'm with Adam I got a quad because my two wheeler racing was getting too full on for me and it stopped being fun. So I got Raptor just to stuff about on the farm and in the bush. Then I found out you could race them and the bug bit me hard. Now i'm back racing more full on than ever but still haven fun.
As Adam said the biggest diff between 2 wheeler MX and Quad MX is the people. Everybody is your freind and alway happy to help each other out in anyway.
The other reason is my body! I think my busted bone count is up to around 15 now all from two wheelers. When at a 2 wheeler meet it's nothing to see up to 5 Ambo's drive in a meet. But on quad we are lucky to see 2 a season _________________ Smitty |

yes after reading what smitty and adam both said i find that is the case
we have 2 kids race 2 wheelers and at a meeting for them a few ppl are willing to help and they are kids where u think most would but wont
on opposite end though we/I have found quad riders to willing to help
whenever i have gone to a meeting where quads are it is diff crowd all together
likes of Smitty , Brett C , Pete W , and Adam in pros willing to give you advice on riding or bike setup and alot of times how smitty has been willing to come race with us try hards to help boost numbers and attention for the sport
lost count on times i have contacted pete and adam on advice
and also how the women in the sport has made Tania feel welcome and encourage her has been a big boost to her confidence wheres our kids only have that from family and friends at meetings on the 2 wheelers _________________ black covered in 5.7 powered oversize quad

Chicks ???? when I'm stinking and filthy dirty after a ride, the chicks dont come near me... They dont come near me when I'm clean and neat. _________________ 2005 KFX700

I've always ridden both bikes and quads, now I mostly ride on the road on 2 wheels though and just the quad for the dirt, I'm much more confident around an MX track or on fast flowing trails on the quad than I ever was on any of my bikes, I still like a bike in the real tight stuff though.
I too, like the atmosphere at Quad races over bike races, everyone gets along and helps each other out, even guys racing against each other in the same class! cant think of any other events I've been to where a Pro rider has lent his spare to another pro rider to get him through the day. _________________

There you go Mrs.G, That's what it's all about! We just need to make sure that as the sport grows, it stays like that. That will be the biggest single challenge we will face as quad riders. _________________ The way to this man's heart is through his esky |

I agree with all that has been said so far, especially about the friendly people.
But the reason i got into it was because of my size (or lack of it).
My whole family are into motorbikes (of various diciplines) but they got into quads well before i reluctantly followed suit.
If i were to get myself another dirtbike, i am pretty much limited to 80cc or around that size because on anything bigger I CAN'T TOUCH THE GROUND!! On PeteW's old WR426 i could barely reach the pegs, let alone the ground!! And i am simply not confident enough in my riding abilities to ride something that i can't sit on comfortably.
With the quads, despite having exceptionally short legs, i have no restrictions on how big a bike i can ride. _________________ (PeteW's missus)
