I think anyone that is there having a go deserves a pat on the back no matter what bike they are on or where they finish.
You wont have to look too far down the overall finish list to find a Honda Brad!!!

Hi all. Just got back home in SA. I know even Phil Hall is still not sure weather he is 4th or 5th yet. They actually called him up on stage for 1st at the presentations.
There must be a lot of numbers and times written down that people are still sorting.
Poor Rick Beers was out for basically a minor electrical fault costing him batteries and therefore 'spark'.
No doubt though, Smitty is the legend of this lunch hour.
On the return leg he fully took out a CR500 as it cart-wheeled away from a tank slapping rider in front of him. The Quad was really bent up (more on the left) and he pressed on.
Around the 60k to go mark he scorred a flat tyre on the left hand rear but kept it pinned all the way home. Without exageration, he honestly lost about a third of his tyre before the finish line. You could easily drop a basketball in the hole. He said the vibrations were nearly killing him.
As he backed off over the finish line the tyre colappsed and nearly sent him in to the wall.
the bloke is an animal.
This was my first Finke and I can see what all the fuss is about.
I had a great run for the first leg, but still came in just under 5 hours. The Jumbo did a wicked job and just kept screaming the whole way.
For those that have not seen the Finke... let me put a perspective on the whoops for you...
They might not swallow whole cars as some rumours suggest but they would have to average around 1m high and the worst thing is that they just do not stop. The 3rd quarter (from the Alice end) is excruciating. You don't get the slightest rest through this section.
Thanks to the Quad Squad, I had a freshly fitted set of Flexx bars. Adam went to great lengths to get them to me just 6 hours before I left. Thank christ he did too. I can't imagine doing the Finke without them. I don't know if I would have finished.
My top gearing worked out to be a spot on selection. Just off valve bounce on the road sections at maybe up to 70kmh on the flats, and still holding the torque curve in most of the flat sandy parts.
Day 2 was a different story. After completing the toughest day in my life (no exageration) I really didn't feel too bad and I knew the T-rex was ripping.
15km in and I blew a head gasket.
the rest is a story for another day... but I did make it back.
Finke on a TRX90 is possible, but not in what you'de call 'good time' and definitely bloody hard work.
Big thanks to Honda World, Andy from Austraco (the holeshots performed awsomely an still look new after lots of training and then going to hell and back), David Hann from Scootaround, Mick from 47 Industries Pete from Southern Quads, all the racers and officials and just about everyone else I met.
See you all up there again next year. _________________ Can-Am X Team
