Hey guy,
pretty new to the quads. I'm looking at buying something in the next couple of months but not sure what would be best to get.
I was riding a mates banshee out at finke the other day and was having a blast. But as I haven't ever been on a decent quad I can't compare it to anything.
I'm looking at spending around 3 - 4 grand max so somethig secondhand is on the cards.
What would people reccomend?? |

You're going to have to give people some info as to where and what style of riding.
Bush, XC, MX, dunes ect. _________________ If it's not upside down, you're not trying hard enough!

as you said, you were having a blast on a banshee!!
whats not decent about a banshee?
you just need to determine if you want a 2 or 4 stroke first, then deciide on a brand and model.
for 3-4 grand, you find yourself a nice banshee with some good mods. |

Erm just really trail riding and probably on the finke track most rides. May look at a ltz400.
Wanna get something I can take the missus on the back if I can. Going to take the banshee and a ltz400 for a ride in the coming weeks to see what I prefer powerwise |

Err, to take a passenger Mos'. it might be better to get a proper 2 seater.
Maybe take your missus and let her have a test ride too. She might be able to get her own and your set for a riding mate too. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

Mate are you in the NT. Travis K has his 08 mxr Outlaw for $5000 if your interested. in that....
Two seater you will probaly have spend alot more than 3-4 grand and you like sports quads two seaters are 4x4s
Yamaha 660 might be what your after. say 03 04 but you will spend money on it.

Ok so by two people I mean to take the missus for a quick spin every now and then to keep her happy lol, will eventually get her a quad to ride by herself.
Not looking for another couple months cause I gotta sell my second car first.
Will keep my eyes peeled tho.
Probably going to steer clear of a banshee as it was a little twitchy for me and I don't wanna be on the gas all the time to keep it in powerband |

Well I got to go out on the weekend and take a banshee and a 2010 yfz450 for a good ride.
I really really like the handling of the 450. Power was great too.
The banshee was still great but harder on the arms and a bit harder to steer.
I think I will up what I am going to spend to the 5 or 6k mark unless for an older 450 unless a banshee comes along that is well priced |

3-5K should be able to find a good, banshee, trx400, ltz400, earlier yfz450, polaris 500 (if your good with spanners) or 660 raptor for that money.
A little bit more than that for the later batch of 450's and bigger bore stuff like the 700 raptor.
If your new to the quad thing, any of them will probably fit the bill. I wish these options were out there when I first started peddling ATV's around the countryside. Nowadays the second hand quad market is a gold mine compared to back then. LTR450Rs are extremely good buying for the money they go for secondhand, even new for that matter.
If you expect to be doing fast runs up the finke track I'd stay well away from the chinese stuff, too heavy, dodgy suspension, and reliability question marks.
If money is an issue and its just a bit of occasional bush bashing then a chinese quad might fit the bill. But I couldn't recommend getting one as I wouldn't buy one, even though they have improved over the last couple of years.
If money aint an issue, there is are some real pretty KTMs on special sitting in one of the dealers in alice at the moment. If only I had my trailer with me when I was up there last week.
And, at the risk of sounding like an old mole. If your new to quads, just take it easy with the missus on the back. Quads can bite if not treated with respect. _________________ State governments give us REC rego + area to ride ATVs legaly! State Status: VIC-No (Nazi's) QLD-Yes(no place to ride tho) NT-? I'm not really sure what the best quad is, but if you ask Lenny, I'm sure he could give you some advice on this subject. He will no doubt be able to recommend a suitable quad. _________________ "WHEN THE STAKES ARE HIGH, GET SERIOUS, GET KTM" |
